Preserve NYC Employees' (Active & Retired) Healthcare

AS a retiree we should continue to have a choice in our medical plan, just as you had as a retiree of NYPD. These plans were approved many years ago and now as we age is not the time to pull the rug out from our feet, please keep the plan we were given when we retired, we served NYC proudly and we hope you understand our concern in keeping medical plans for retirees as they were offered when we retired. Thank you for reading.

I am fighting to keep my current health insurance. Why would NYC do this to seniors when we really need it!!!

Robert Fileccia (NPR, Fl., 2022-03-18)

NYC has to find another way to finance the healthcare that was promised to us, the municipal workers, when we retired from our positions with the city of NY. Our careers were based on that promise, and we accepted less money than we could have earned if we took a job outside of NYC in the surrounding communities, solely based on the attractive pension and healthcare we expected to receive in the future. For many of us, that meant many hours spent commuting, and the extra cost of gasoline, and bridge tolls. We've been loyal to the City of NY. Now we need NYC's help to support us in our time of need. We are NYC retirees. We are elderly. We have health issues. We feel as if the rug has been pulled out from under us at a time when we have the greatest need. Please bring our security and peace of mind back.

It is totally unfair to punish retirees by forcing them to pay for a plan they were promised when they retired.

Joann Rodeschin (Bonita Springs, 2022-03-18)

My family depends on our health insurance that was given at time of retirement. At our age with severe health issues to give us a gatekeeper is unjust. Our union sold us out!!!!

I worked for the City of New York for my entire career, knowing that I would receive the best health care when I retired. This is in danger of being taken away just when I need it most. I should be able to maintain Medicare, which I paid into for forty years!

My husband and I need the city's appeal of Judge Frank's decision cancelled. We cannot get the quality of healthcare under the MAP plan than we have been receiving because the hospitals and doctors involved in our care WILL NOT participate in this plan and our lives depend on it.

The city & MLC sees their retired workforce as a pawn in contest to take away what was promised, healthcare for life in turn for working at a paid rate lower than others doing the same job in NYC.

I gave my intelligence to educating the children of NYC for 33 years. I followed the rules and NYC must be required to honor all that dedicated decades of their lives to making NYC function. Michael Mulgrew takes advantage of the lack of transparency and oversight of the welfare fund. The MAP is merely another way to divert taxpayer funds from their intended purpose to extending the power of certain unions. Adams, you state that you are driven by health and well being. The voice that told you that you would be Mayor is talking to you now. Make the choice that has integrity, not for your pocket but for the greater good. The MAP remains a bait and switch.

As a NYC educator I have served the public well over many years. The agreements we signed regarding salary and benefits included protections in retirement. In good faith our health coverage should be continued.

Ellen Kelly (Garden City , 2022-03-18)

#4978

The federal government's actions by "borrowing" funds from The Social Security Fund with the intention of paying it back has been shown to be a failure ans The City of New York has done the same with funds from our retirement fund. Proven to be a bad idea already and because there is legal precedent for replacing our health insurance with something that's only equal to and/or better... THIS IS WHY I SIGN! I did my job and did it well and sacrificed a bigger paycheck for having excellent retirement funds for my husband and I... THIS IS WHY I SIGN!

Thomai Takantzas (Bayside, 2022-03-18)

My union generated contracts which were carefully reviewed, analyzed and ratified. My CSA brothers and sisters in unity, would NEVER agree to any clause in our contract which placed our NYC active and retiree health benefits in jeopardy.
If a different municipal union did so, that should not become my problem! And to penalize me by charging a $191.00 premium for a GHI Senior Care, with no written prior notice, due process or new contract indicating so, is fraudulent, arbitrary and capricious.
Go back to Law School! Stop trying to deceive and thieve funds from me! Preserve and protect our active and retiree NYC health benefits?
