It will have a lot of job losses

Chris Coombs (Johannesburg, 2022-08-23)

#204

I believe this decision will not stop the real criminals but only cripple the poor people who lives daily from waste and scrap metal they collect legit.

George Honiball (Pretoria, 2022-08-23)

#206

I am in the scrap metal recycling business and it is of great concern.

Marlene Lingenfelder (Brakpan , 2022-08-23)

#217

Scrap recycling is a source of job creation for the unemployed which the government is unable to provide a income for the homeless. Its also protecting the environment from pollution. Alot of citizens will be unemployed and part of the statistics. The goverment is responsible for all the unemployment, where the private sector is struggling to provide. The government is failing the citizens of this country and want to pollute and cause poverty all over.

Marzelle OOSTHUIZEN (Brits , 2022-08-23)

#219

There will be to many people that will lost their jobs.

Susan Gous ( Brits nw, 2022-08-23)

#221

I am directly affected by the ban on scrap metal!!! It is my only source of income to provide for my family and to take care of all of my employees!!!

Juan-Pierre Hales (Klerksdorp, 2022-08-23)

#222

The banning of the export will directly result in the massive decrease of scrap prices, this will be caused by an oversupply of scrap into the South African market. This decrease will effect all people that either generate scrap or collect scrap as a form of income. The price decrease will also lead to thousands of people losing their jobs who work in the scrap industry.

The correct means to stop the theft of cable would be to ban the trade in copper cable or wire.

Matthew Wadge (Durban, 2022-08-23)

#223

Because I employed 15 people in the scrap metal industry. I have a customer base of around 4500 people. So my business supply and puts a lot off food on the table for many people in a small farmers town.

Johan Van den Heever (Christiana, 2022-08-23)

#225

It plays an important roll in our economy and keeps our land free from scrap laying around.

Kassie Holtzhausen (Rustenburg, 2022-08-23)

Livingstone Ligege (Johannesburg, 2022-08-23)

#243

Marietha van den Berg Van den Berg (BETHLEHEM, 2022-08-23)

#244

I see peole collecting cans for just one meal a day on the table for their kids what will happen to that family without any food so I say NO PLEASE dont shut us down

Wilhelmina Sophia Smith (Bethlehem, 2022-08-23)

#245

I'm signing as this has a great impact negatively on many lives and families.

Cindy Barnard (Gauteng, 2022-08-23)

#248

Trevor McKay (Christiana , 2022-08-23)

#254

Thashnee Thulukanam (Durban, 2022-08-23)

#255

There is businesses that do scrap to the books and make a living out of it. They cannot punish the law abiding people in order to stop the looting

Cobus Nieuwoudt (Klerksdorp, 2022-08-23)

#256

It would be a bigger disaster than the looting that took place this year. the scrap industry is the biggest employer in the world and would kill RSA economy that is struggling already. lets not let corruption kill another Dept in RSA.

colin van biljon (Pietermaritzburg, 2022-08-23)

#260

Myself, my company, my employees, and about a thousand suppliers along with their families, will be negatively affected by this draft

Cornel de Villiers (Bloemfontein , 2022-08-23)

#262

Because it makes zero sense to loose a million jobs because of a corrupt government

Greg Hogarth (Kempton park, 2022-08-23)

#263

Firstly, the "TRAINED TASK TEAM" that is appointed to stop cable & infrastructure theft is not trained to identify materials and they are so corrupt, that the criminals get away for a few rands.
The law enforcement is letting the country down, you cannot BAN trading, it will cause massive job losses which will result in MORE THEFT.
Start by getting rid of corrupt law enforcement and judges. Train task teams properly and catch the actual CRIMINALS.
ANC wants to stop the people who empty rubbish bags for recycling materials and take away the last money/food and dignity that they have.
Stop scrapyards that are NOT FULLY COMPLIANT and arrest the ones that buy illegal materials.
Some of us do everything and MORE BY LAW. Do not make us the guilty ones.
START AT THE TOP OF THE CHAIN FIRST.
I will defend my reasons with proof ANYTIME.

STOP CORRUPT LAW ENFORCEMENTS!!!!

Lizelle Volschenk (Bredell, 2022-08-23)

#270

I wil lose my job if we have to close down

Rupert Botes (Boksburg, 2022-08-23)

#271

I don't agree with the ban of metal trade and exports as this will effect my business directly although I am a registered and legitimate scrap metal dealer and recycler. I will be forced to retrench my staff if this ban is put into place.

NADINE WEPENER (Germiston, 2022-08-23)

#273

A scrap metal export ban will jeopardize employment in the sector without solving the problem of infrastructure theft.

Tegwyn Collins (Durban, 2022-08-23)

#274

It is a death blow to the lowest of income earners for the benefit of 1 or 2 companies who will make millions at the expensive of others, to which i might add DTI has a stake in with regards 100 of millions of rands. Further it is collusionary and anti competitive and will cost this economy billions. To think if price drops by 50% that people will stop stealing it is absurd...the lower the price the more the starving masses will steal to feed themselves. Underground smugglers will flourish as happened with the cigarette ind during that ingenious ban. So lets ban the sale of cars, maybe hijackings will stop

Benjy Jassinowsky (Glenhazel, 2022-08-23)

#275

A scrap metal export ban will jeopardize employment in the sector without solving the problem of infrastructure theft.

Hemwathi Moodley (Durban, 2022-08-23)

#277

Because this will kill the industry and the benefits are far far less than the repercussions

Daniel Jassinowsky (Johannesburg , 2022-08-23)

#280

This will cripple a legitimate industry and destroy hundreds of thousands of jobs

Saul Jassinowsky (Johannebsurg, 2022-08-23)

#281

This is a terrible plan and will lead to job losses and an increase in crime

Alad Yariv (Boksburg , 2022-08-23)

#283

I don't think the ban on export of scrap metals can be afforded by SA. This will cause los of jobs and loss of millions in revenue.

Fritz Kommer (Boksburg , 2022-08-23)

#284

A scrap metal export ban will jeopardize employment in the sector without solving the problem of infrastructure theft.

Gillian Zietsman (Waterfall, Durban, 2022-08-23)

#285

I’m signing this Petition against the implementation of a Ban on the Export of Scrap Metal from South Africa. To ban exporting scrap metal will leave a lot of people unemployed and open more doors for theft and illegal activities.

#288

A scrap metal export ban will jeopardize employment in the sector without solving the problem of infrastructure theft.

Kyle Steven Mc Intosh (Margate, 2022-08-23)

#289

I’m signing this petition against the implementation of a Ban on the Export of Scrap Metal from South Africa because implementing a ban is not going to curb crime but instead force people to find illegal ways to make money just like they did during lockdown when the sales of alcoholic beverages and cigarettes were banned. The economy is already struggling as is, the unemployment rate is rising daily. This ban will not only contribute to this but escalate the problem. What is going to happen to all the scrap produced by companies if exports are banned? If our wonderful government believes that they are going to stop copper theft by banning exports then they have a big wake-up call coming their way.

Nadia Kommer (Boksburg , 2022-08-23)

#304

Open and free trade is a principle I believe in , and better policing and security should be in place. Stopping cash for scrap should be implemented immediately , but crushing the entire industry will mean massive job losses and may not even solve the problem.

Angelo Solimene (Durban, 2022-08-23)

#305

I'm signing this petition as we are honest scrap dealers just trying to make a honest living and do not purchase infrastructure or stolen cables.

Beverly Joffe (Durban, 2022-08-23)

#331

I disagree with the proposed ban in its entirety, what about people’s jobs that are at risk due to this? Who will support them and their families? Can government catch a hard wake up already please? It’s so tiring listening to them concoct more bs when there’s so much more on our doorstep already? Jack up on law enforcement and ensure they do THEIR jobs and there would be less metal theft, maybe?

Clayron Howard (Alberton , 2022-08-23)

A scrap metal export ban will jeopardize employment in the sector without solving the problem of infrastructure theft

ELVIS GOVENDER (DURBAN , 2022-08-23)

Allow steel export

McConnell Douglas (Durban, 2022-08-23)

#347

Every registered scrap dealer knows which materials they are allowed to buy. The scrap yards that buy the illegal materials should be punished by law. The only way to do that is to educate the appointed task team to the best of their knowledge, so that they can positively identify the illegal materials when checking in by the scrap yards on a weekly basis.
Every scrap yard should get a sample from the government so that they can positively identify the materials, as the cables are the same as what you can buy from an electrical shop.
Law enforcement want to force their "status" down on scrap yard owners by saying that all copper is illegal. They have no clue which copper is which but they are very eager to say that it is stolen.
Closing down scrap yards/exports will only benefit the rich people(GOVERNMENT OWNED COMPANIES) of South-Africa and make the poor poorer. It will also lift the, already sky high, crime & unemployment rate by another 80%

Jan Volschenk (Bredel, 2022-08-23)

#349

I have signed because I believe in people employment and we have so many people whose initiative keeps the city much cleaner and the make living for themselves and their families and work very hard.
