I am against this new law on scrap as many people will lose their jobs, the whole steel and scrap industry will collapse if the new law comes in place

Hester Labuschagne (Lichtenburg, 2022-08-23)

#418

The biggest thieves of the country wants to close down legitimate small business owners and larger business due to their lack of accepting fault and blaming it on other businesses. Instead of cleaning up their criminal cabinets, they need other ways to rob the hard working people of this country. This includes the poorest of the poor informal recyclers who scratches thru dust bins and landfills who will now have nothing to work for.

Daniel de Jager (Germiston, 2022-08-23)

#419

I believe that banning export of scrap metal is not the answer.

Helena Everett (Durban, 2022-08-23)

Of all the jobs and owner of a business. 75% of my customers don't have bank details or even a phone his or her income comes from the street and dumping sites. I understand the infrastructure of our country are vandelised but why do companies that are compliant to the law be punished for these that are not compliant to the law.

Iam apposed to the proposed banning of export of Scral Metal and the proposed new legislation that will bring about the new regime in the Scrap metal recycling industry .

Jean Strydom (Port Elizabeth , 2022-08-23)

#432

I think it is a very pathetic law to implement because the police is incompetente. How can you implement a law which costs 1 million South Africans their job. Recycling is critical and we can't afford to minimize the market.

Christian Strydom (Pretoria, 2022-08-23)

#435

Many individuals rely on scrap metal as a means of income and their livelihood is at stake should this ban come into place. We need to be able to export to keep the pricing competitive.

#505

Banning scrap will cripple legitimate scrap industry, ie factory generated scrap. Automotive component manufacturers will loose all value from scrap which has nothing to do with infrastructure damage or theft.

Daneel Du Preez (Port Elizabeth , 2022-08-24)

#506

This will cause further poverty

#510

I am an scrapmetal owner and daily I see people from the street who can not find work come and sell to get money to provide for their families. the material that we buy is not illegal and I feel that the real criminals must be caught . I the metal industry close down the unemployment rate in SA will go up and we can not afford it. I do agree for strict measures , but a total shuts down would be devastaded specialy for the people who earn a living out of picking scrap

Hendrik van Schoor (stilfontein, 2022-08-24)

#515

A scrap metal export ban will jeopardize employment in the sector without solving the problem of infrastructure theft.

Justin Mathie (Durban, 2022-08-24)

#518

As an employee in the metal recycling industry for nearly 20 years I am very afraid of what a total ban on scrap metal will mean for my future and all other people employed in the industry. These laws will destroy the metal recycling industry. And thousands upon thousands of people will lose their source of income.
This will destroy millions of lives.

Sascha Albrecht (Durban, 2022-08-24)

#519

Goverment should rather shift focus on the real problem behind the damage and theft that is causing damage to the infrastructure. There are millions of hardworking honest people making a living from recycling industry, this whole ban is just to promote or enlarge the interest of one or two companies, they have no clue how big problem this will cause to millions of households who depend on the industry as a main source of income,

Joe Rademeyer (Pretoria, 2022-08-24)

#520

I am a member of RASA and completely agree with there reasoning. This is from a small recycling business that could be affected by this new proposed bill.

Carlos Baeta (Pietermaritzburg , 2022-08-24)

#521

I'm signing this petition because I am an
employee of a Scrap yard company and breadwinner at home supporting a family of 7. We've got no other income, meaning we won't survive without this work.

#525

I work in the industry and my family welfare is dependent upon it

Jaco Lloyd (Witbank , 2022-08-24)

#529

#530

The legal scrap metals are not the problem.
We keep registers of every metals bought and sold daily. We comply with the second hand goods act 6 of 2009 every minute of every day. Though we are blamed and accused of organised crimes. So many people living in poverty because of ou Countries extremely high unemployment rate rely on recycling companies as they walk for hours on end everyday to pick up odd metals thats been thrown anway just to get enough money to feed their families at night. Just to get up in the morning to do it all over again. We as registered and legal trading Scrap metal dealers pay our taxes, do our bits and pieces for our communities and provide jobs for so many people. It is unfair to perceive us all as rotten apples as the true ones are those whom never even applied for a license, never gets inspections or report on suspected goods.

Nadine Jansen van vuuren (Emalahleni, 2022-08-24)

#531

This is putting people out of work and oppertunity to look after their families. South Africa should create work not destroy whatever possible oppertunities.

Jan Jordaan (Boksburg, 2022-08-24)

#532

I've got 92 workers who is going to lose job

Khazamula Elias Chabalala (Gauteng, 2022-08-24)

#535

I'm signing this because some people rely on this as there daily income and survival. It is there bread and butter. Can't punish everyone for some peoples wrong doing. Law inforcement must to therebjob to catch criminals and not let the criminals take away a honest person's living.

Camrron Knickelbein (East london, 2022-08-24)

#540

I am also an owner of a scrap metal shop and will have 16 workers with families without jobs

Jacoba Botha (Witbank, 2022-08-24)

#542

Scrapmetal dealer. 80% of my Customers pick up scrap from the local Dumpside or the dustbins. They also strip the broken appliances like broken kettles, toasters etcetera that they collect. There are less than half a kilogram of copper inside this appliances. Mixed Copper......not cable. There are a difference. They do it to get more money. They don't have a job. They have families to support. Most of them get less than R30. If they can't sell anymore, who's going to give them money for food? Or a job? The Government???? And what about the cash transaction? They already get so little money. How much will they pay for fees? Nothing is for free. Because of the export ban the prices are so low. They have to bring almost dubble as much to get the amount they use to. If you want to stop the vandalism of the infrastructure: get a Security Company to look after your stuff. You will never stop the crime problems in South Africa with this new Scrap law. You will make it worse. If the poor and unemployed can't sell Scrap, they will brake into the shops or into our houses to take what they need.

Bernice Smith (Witbank, 2022-08-24)

#543

I'm sick and tyred of our government distroing life's and taking away income because of their incompancy

Christa Strydom (Centurion, 2022-08-24)

#544

I'm signing because over 1.5 million South Africans will loose their jobs if this isn't stopped. That means atleast 1.5 million people will have to find a new job, in a country where jobs are already hard to find, meaning 1.5 million families will need to fight for servival, that can lead to more crime, as some of these families might be homeless if this is implemented and might steel from others just to get food for their families.

If the government cares about the people of this country they would not even suggest that this take place, I'm signing this in hope and because I believe we can stop this from happening.

Christinè Strydom (Pretoria, 2022-08-24)

#564

Loss of more jobs and what about people who depend on that money they get for scrap and cans. It's the elegal scrap dealers that buy the wrong stuff not us

Government should focus on the crime, corruption within Government. Driving wrong behavior, taking a job away from thousands of legal abiding citizens

Melinda kommer Kommer (Gauteng , 2022-08-25)
