Bring Back Cash Payment Options to Cairns Regional Council Facilities

Comments

Keep cash alive! Cash is available at all times. Cash is available when there is a power outage, which we have been told by government is something that is going to happen regularly in the near future. Renewables will never provide enough electricity to keep Cairns Region electric.
Not accepting cash is NOT in the interest of citizens. It's more control. We do not comply.

Margaret Both (Cairns, 2023-02-26)

#602

We need to keep Cash

Trish King (Cairns, 2023-02-26)

#629

Martin Jolley (Earlville, 2023-02-26)

#631

In a region that experiences cyclones and frequent power outages it is ridiculous that the local council remove the option of using cash as a means to pay for anything.

Anne Ah Gee (Cairns, 2023-02-26)

#634

Bring back cash

Emma McKenzie (Cairns, 2023-02-26)

#635

The council needs to think of all of its citizens that may use a variety of payment methods. Cash is legal tender

Evalyn Turner (Cairns, 2023-02-26)

#637

We need cash flow in society, cashless is NOT going to work, as many will find out. It's just one of the agendas nobody needs. If Government is pushing it, then it means trouble

Mick Smith (Toowoomba, 2023-02-26)

#639

Cash is much needed everywhere. I only pay by cash and will not support a cashless society.

Cash is legal tender and should not be removed from our rights.

Echentille Dion (Cairns , 2023-02-26)

#644

Cash is our country's legal tender but there are now far too many places where it it not accepted. It is totally unacceptable that we cannot use our own money in our own county.

Jen Benson (Cairns, 2023-02-26)

#645

I am a sole trader
And most if not all my jobs

Chris Trace (Kingaroy , 2023-02-26)

The council work for the community and are rate payer funded... they have no right to make these major decisions without being elected members or community vote.

Michael Krisanski (Speewah, 2023-02-26)

#649

I agree

Jen Jones (Whitfield, 2023-02-26)

#650

Economy needs to be accessible, with options.

Maggie B (Kuranda, 2023-02-26)

#651

Cash is legal tender!

Charelle Clarke (Cairns , 2023-02-26)

#652

It's still a currency that the banks can't charge fees for $50 is $50 always

Marcus Arula (Cairns, 2023-02-26)

#655

Everyone should have the right to use cash, at any facility, whether it be at Council run or private businesses. Cash is legal tender and should never be refused. COvid has proven to be no more dangerous than the common flu.

Jo Parker (Mackay, 2023-02-26)

#658

I like cash

Govender Christopher (Nhulunbuy, 2023-02-26)

#660

Cash is still legal tender

Ben Billingham (Cairns, 2023-02-26)

#661

Cash is a form of currency and the cost of living is going up, Council cannot be fussy with which form of payment we locals and residents choose to use, also not everyone has a debit/credit card available, accessible, cash is currency!?
Real events from Jan 2023 I was doing my yearly cyclone season/ spring clean and hired a trailer for the job. The cost of living has gone up and a unexpected bill had come out of my card and taken the last amount of money I had which was for the dump run. Luckily I could over draw cash out, so I did. I continued on my way to the dump, as I went to pay for my $12 medium load with a $20 note I was turned away and told we don't take cash and councils given lots of notice to the public. Shocked. What do you meeEaAnn? I've just loaded a full trailer that's already been paid for and hired for the day, how can I not empty it!? I can't dump it because you don't accept cash! Now that's some real rubbish. Also These changes were not publicly advertised or heavily notified to the public or else these changes would have been fought against earlie. It's silly. Stop being silly.

A B (CAIRNS, 2023-02-26)

#662

I like to use cash most of the time

Tye Oxford (Cairns , 2023-02-26)

#666

I want to keep cash alive

Erica Giorgi (QLD, 2023-02-26)

#667

I am signing because I do not believe a council for all people should be able to refuse cash currency. Not everyone has or wants cards. Cash is LEGAL tender. Bring back the choice .

Michelle Moseley (Cairns , 2023-02-26)

#668

I believe all Australians should have a free choice on using cash or card. Cash is still widely used and available through out the community. People are being put at a disadvantage when it is refused.

Emma Thompson (Cannonvale, 2023-02-26)

#669

Cash is our legal tender and should always be accepted...
Although cards can be convenient they can be lost , stolen, damaged or simply not preferred...
Council have no right to stop accepting cash and then complain when our banks all pack up and leave town.. 😏

Steve Cairns (Palm Cove , 2023-02-26)

#675

I’m like a lot of elderly people who don’t carry cash with me due to people always getting mugged in Cairns.

Marilyn Burke (Edmonton, 2023-02-26)

#677

Real money that is hands on is far better and easier to use than tapping your card. Banking institutions make money on each transaction when tapping.
Inserting your card is better. But cash is even better again and faster then inserting your card.

Our youth are loosing the value of counting. Paying for small items like drinks and newspapers or buying bananas on the side of roads. Putting coins into street parking. Or going to our library. Dump fees on people who only want to keep their homes clean are another burden on living costs.
It’s easier to budget your wallet.

Neville Portelli (Innisfail , 2023-02-26)

#678

Cash should always be a option and it is still legal

Jim Miles (Einasleigh, 2023-02-26)

#680

Cash should be accepted everywhere

Allan Buckman (Cairns, 2023-02-26)

#681

I want to pay in cash

Renea James (Cairns , 2023-02-26)

#683

I'm signing because I have family in Cairns who do not use social media and they want to keep cash transactions as do I.
I don't want this Farsical WEF/UN idea to spread to other councils.!
Especially this 20 minute city crap as well.,

Kevin Conoplia (Tolga, 2023-02-26)

#684

Cash is legal tender and I’m sick of paying everything with card. Much better to account for money spent and keep track of what money I have using cash instead of tapping cards everywhere.

Sarah Osborne (Westcourt, 2023-02-26)

#685

I visit Cairns routinely and only have cash

Rob Cumming (Ravenshoe, 2023-02-26)

If you don't want it then it is free

Wayne Pfeffer (Cairns, 2023-02-26)

#692

Peter Giddins (Cairns, 2023-02-26)

Mark Thornton (Kelso, 2023-02-26)

#699

I'm signing because I prefer to use cash, it is also legal tender & rate payers should be able to make their own choices

David Laloli (Whitfield, 2023-02-26)

#700

Not everyone uses card, I predominately use cash

Anita Vidgen (Palm Cove, 2023-02-26)

#702

They have no right to refuse our legal Australian currency

Brett Duggan (Edmonton, 2023-02-26)

#703

We should not abandon cash to be reliant on a digital system that could crash at any second for any reason. Cash in some ways represents freedom from tyranny. We should not blindly follow the narrative telling us that cashless is the way forward in a modern world. This narrative has been constructed by billionaires trying to make the population do what they want, not what is good for us.

Al Boulton (Cairns , 2023-02-26)

#705

I reserve the right to choose whether I use cash (legal tender) or electronic payment.

Les Daly (Cairns , 2023-02-26)

Genie Craze (Cairns, 2023-02-26)

#716

Cash is a legal tender and its my right to pay cash if I choose so

Joe Tizzone (Cleveland, 2023-02-26)

#717

you should be able to pay with cash. its legal tender and should be accepted.

James Hall (Cairns, 2023-02-26)

#718

Melody Carragher (Cairns, 2023-02-26)

#721

Cash is a legal tender and should be accepted

Tarma Jensen (Machans Beach, 2023-02-26)

#723

I do not want a cashless country. There is no actual reason why cash should be not accepted it is legal tender. The drive towards cashless and then a central digital currency is not in the best interest of the Australian people.

Julie Mower (Gold coast, 2023-02-26)

#724

I don’t want to be controlled by banks and institutions, cashless is not an option

Tna Bloemer (Mooloolaba , 2023-02-26)

#725

I want to have choice of paying cash. Using cash helps people budget and spend more wisely, reducing the debt the is overtaking society. If you want to help the people of cairns you will look into the statistics of paying cash over card, and realise that you will be helping our city financially. Also it's a bit hard to pay by card when there is a power outage. Use common sense.

Annette Stary (Cairns, 2023-02-26)

#726

I am signing because I believe paying with plastic means the small business lose out again and cash holds it's value. It also offers us autonomy.

Andrea Monkhouse (Cairns, 2023-02-26)

#728

Cash is legal tender in Australia and no organisation least of all a corporate local council can remove the people’s right to use our National currency.

Tim Cragg (Twin Waters, Qld, 2023-02-26)

#730

We need to keep cash flowing.

Justine fleming (Mooroobool, 2023-02-26)

#731

Cash needs to remain in society! Council has a responsibility to its ratepayers to accept all forms of payment! Cash is currency!

Leanne Young (Captain Creek, 2023-02-26)

#732

Not everyone is able to pay with cashless options. Freedom of choice. The people have not been given the opportunity to have our say in this matter.

Kitty Clignett (Kuranda, 2023-02-26)

#735

Cash has many benefits for childrens development

Jess Benkler (Cairns, 2023-02-27)

#737

Alternative payment systems are essential and should be a right.

David Acres (Cairns, 2023-02-27)

#738

Cash only services is extremely unfair for people who do not have access to digital banking. Cash should be accepted at all council services and facilities.

Melissa White (Cairns, 2023-02-27)

#739

Once we except a digital currency we will never get cash back. The banks are making squillions out of tap and go and, think about local community clubs who rely on fund raising events like selling raffles etc to keep their clubs going.

Christine Hodgson (Cairns , 2023-02-27)

#741

I don't want this to happen in my council

Lin Bonney (Childers, 2023-02-27)

#743

Cash is legal tender

Hayley Winchester (North Maclean, 2023-02-27)

#744

I'm signing because I reckon it's better to have both digital and cash as well as other s like to shop with cash as well as others like to shop and spend digitally.

Matthew Motlop (Cairns, 2023-02-27)

#745

It hurts everyone to go cashless!!

Nikki Batch (Edmonton, 2023-02-27)

#746

Legal tender should never be refused . What happens when there's an issue with internet or power then no payments can be processed??

Joanne Bikaunieks (Kewarra beach , 2023-02-27)

#747

Keep cash alive!

Katrina Cunningham Cunningham (Bentley Park, 2023-02-27)

#749

Once cash is gone we will be at the full whim of the powers to be, everything will be taxed from kids pocket money to the tradies cash jobs that help keep their house hold afloat

Ayde Walker (Cairns , 2023-02-27)

#751

Cash is legal tender and is my main preference.

Marianna Jurd (Edge Hill, 2023-02-27)

#752

Cash should always be available. If nothing else, we should not depend on power supply to pay. Banks make huge profits from electronic payments.

Wendy Harris-gallichan (Kuranda, 2023-02-27)

#753

Cash is and needs to remain legal tender.

Em Buzz (Diwan, 2023-02-27)

#756

I run a small business within the Cairns community as well as regional and we need cash to ensure on the spot payments for our services and products.

A cashless society basically weakens the mainstream people from doing day to day transactions whether it's paying for groceries or a service for example a furniture removal after the completion of the job.

We also get charged enough fees and charges by the banks and to be able to limit this by paying cash is the way most people can save on these fees.

Atleast you know when being paid by cash that you have been paid right there and then and not relying on a bank transaction or credit card payment.

Mathew Impey (Mount Sheridan, 2023-02-27)

#757

I am a ratepayer and cash is my preferred payment.

Billy Ashby (Cairns , 2023-02-27)

#759

It's ridiculous

Toni Cosentino (Cairns, 2023-02-27)

#766

Absolutely ridiculous, can’t pay with cash. Pretty sure it’s legal tender.

Nicole Dey (Wandal, 2023-02-28)

#767

We should all have a choice to use cash money - it is still our legal tender.

Kandice Van Kleef (Cairns , 2023-02-28)

#769

We should have a choice. Cash is legal tender and not everyone has a credit or even debit card. Don't inconvenience customers for convenience of council. We pay and we vote. Listen to us.

Patricia Mercado (Cairns, 2023-02-28)

#772

We should have the freedom to pay cash or card at any venues

sandra leonello (Cairns, 2023-02-28)

#774

Cash should always be useable everywhere

Nik Smith (Cairns , 2023-02-28)

#775

I believe we need to keep cash, because if we don’t we will be controlled by the banking system and therefore have no digital privacy. I have already seen that some people are punished by government by freezing their bank accounts for no legitimate reason.

Sharon Johnson (Gilston, 2023-02-28)

#776

If I want to pay for things using cash which is still legal tender I should still have that option. Plus I hate having to pay extra fees cause I'm forced to pay by card

Kirsten Harrison (Cairns, 2023-02-28)

#777

Cash is legal currency, no reason not to be able to use it any where any time

Danielle Brabon (Yorkeys Knob , 2023-02-28)

#778

Cash is legal tender n should be used, wherever n whenever

W Sims (Cairns, 2023-02-28)

#779

I’m tired of trying to support local business so make the effort to take out cash, then to be told it’s not accepted anymore is ridiculous.

Donna Kelly (Cairns, 2023-02-28)

#782

People should have a choice

Maireen Scott (Cairns, 2023-02-28)

#783

A cashless society and only bring problems

Liam Clark (Cairns, 2023-02-28)

#784

YOU CANT REFUSE LEGAL TENDER THATS THE LAW

paul davis (freshwater, 2023-02-28)

#785

Cash is legal

Jim O'Keefe (Tully, 2023-02-28)

#790

I think that the Cairns Regional Council's NO-CASH policy is absolutely ridiculous. Money is money whether it is physical or electronic. There is no valid reason this policy should be introduced other than being a precursor to a cashless society which nobody seems to want.

Nic Zee (Cairns, 2023-02-28)

#791

I use cash as my preferred form of payment

Travis Richards (Bayview Heights, 2023-02-28)

#792

Rate payers should have option to pay by cash. CCC start listening to your constituents!

Flora Trinça (Brinsmead , 2023-02-28)

Treacey Kirk (Cairns, 2023-03-01)

#796

I want cash used

Samuel Lim (Manoora, 2023-03-01)
