Save Maldon's Easter Parade

I grew up in maldon and this is one of the biggest traditions the town has. VicRoads have no right to change a 146 year event for it

Why can’t the trucks bypass just for one day? The Easter parade has been going for as long as I can remember and it’s always been a great family day out. Please please please let it continue!

Karen Gregory (Castlemaine, 2023-04-06)

#6

I live in Maldon and don't want this tradition to change in this historic little town. The town is too small to have large trucks driving through and they don't adhere to the 40km limit.

Sue Lane (Maldon, 2023-04-06)

#7

Small towns rely on these kind of attractions!

Manue René (CASTLEMAINE, 2023-04-06)

#10

I love that my town has a deep connection to its past

Trevor Ware (Maldon, 2023-04-06)

#12

I have grown up participating in or attending the procession. It is part of the fabric of the Maldon community and has been for 150 years.

Russell Healy (Rosanna, 2023-04-06)

#14

This would be a significant loss to the community of our town and our historical relationship with the Easter parade.

Carolyn Hunter (Maldon, 2023-04-06)

#16

The parade, and our history and heritage is more important than a two hour closure of a road. Compliance, and lack of respect for country communities gone mad.
Cheers

David Hutchings (Lockwood South, 2023-04-06)

#17

This is a tradition I have done with my family since I was a child and we look forward to it every year. Would be a shame and such a loss to see it end

Nicole Kellett (Castlemaine, 2023-04-06)

#19

How dare Vic roads be so uncooperative and totally ignore a long-standing community event. B double trucks should NOT be going thru Maldon at any time.

John Robinson (Lockwood South, 2023-04-06)

#21

I am signing this petition due to I have attended these parades since I was a child and the amount of people who have attended is mind blowing! The smile on the kids faces can't be taken away!!

Bianca Laws-Shanks (Bendigo, 2023-04-06)

#22

This parade has been going since before trucks were invented. Surely the truck driver/s could take their break while the parade is on. It’s not like it’s all day. Or better still take the less than half hour alternate route. It is after all a public holiday and there are not usually many trucks on that road.

Susan Cross (Traralgon, 2023-04-06)

#25

I grew up in Maldon and my parents still live here. We have been attending the parade for over 30 years the parade has been running for over 150 years and has never had a issue in the past the traffic is stopped for an hour. It’s very rare this road is used for transport on the day anyway.

Kerry-Anne Hamilton (Eaglehawk , 2023-04-06)

#29

I’ve been going in this parade since I was a kid and now my kids go in every year. Not having this parade would ruin a tradition that so many love and look forward to each year.

Rachel Geddes (Maldon, 2023-04-06)

#31

This is a very special heritage town. So much history has disappeared in Australia, we cannot lose any more including this 146 year old parade.

Verity Klestadt (Maldon, 2023-04-06)

#33

I strongly believe procession should continue as it has for 145 years. Bureaucracy gone mad.

Lynette Dinwoodie (Kyneton, 2023-04-06)

#36

Not enough effort has been put into saving this 145 year tradition by way of finding an alternative or compromise that appeals to all parties. If Melbourne can close its major arterial roads to put on an event then surely Maldon can do something.

Craig Waters (Maiden Gully, 2023-04-06)

#37

The pandemic has shown that communities like Maldon need such traditions to maintain cohension.

Peggy Aeschlimann (Maldon, 2023-04-06)

#38

I do not want the parade to be at risk because of heavy vehicles driving through the area during the time the parade is on. Last year there was very nearly a bad accident because two big vehicles went through when the parade was running.

Wendy Cowling (Maiden Gully, 2023-04-06)

#41

I live in Maldon and love the Historic aspects of this town, including the Easter parade. Having loud B double trucks come through our small town is a risk at any time, with a high number of pedestrians crossing High Street and needing to be wary of these large vehicles.

Justine Gale (Maldon, 2023-04-06)

#42

The parade is an iconic part of the Maldon Easter Fair and brings joy to thousands. Ridiculous trucks can’t use an alternate route like they have for years.

Gabrielle Rossi (Maiden Gully, 2023-04-06)

#43

I’m signing because this is such a wonderful community event that brings tourists from all over Victoria and helps keep Maldon’s small businesses afloat.
My grandparents, parents, myself and my children have all been part of this event and we love it dearly.

Melinda Vremec (Ferntree Gully, 2023-04-06)

#44

Listen to your community

Rob Atins (Lockwood South, 2023-04-06)

#45

The parade holds important significance for the township of Maldon. It brings the community together and brings much needed tourism to the town.

Melissa Wright (Ballarat, 2023-04-06)

#46

Because our family has close ties to Maldon and the Easter Fair is such a wonderful event, the highlight of which is the Easter Parade on Easter Monday. It is a lovely social event which puts Maldon on the map.

Jen Farley (Melbourne , 2023-04-06)

#47

i am signing Because vicroads are about to destroy not only maldon and the impact it will have allowing B - Doubles come through town but also events such as the easter parade which has held a tradition for 145 years please help me stand up and fight this decision an alternative route on short notice with a large crowd expected year in year out is not Possible people come from all over to watch it some even interstate

scott iskov (frankston north, 2023-04-06)

#49

It's a significant cultural event

Chris Stobie (Bendigo , 2023-04-06)

#50

This parade has been going for over 100 years, it’s a great celebration for the town involving the whole community. People come from far & wide to attend. It also brings a lot of money into the town

Gail Cox (Campbells Creek , 2023-04-06)

#51

Ridiculousness of Vicroad.
If they close all the major roads around St Kilda for days for the St Kilda Festival and the same for other events, why discriminate against Maldon.

Lindsay Clark (Maldon, 2023-04-06)

#52

I am standing up for Maldons Easter Parade

Tania Clarke (Campbells Creek, 2023-04-06)

#53

History is very important. With 4 generations of the Rowe family (my husbands side) alive, it’s amazing to keep the traditions going. Surely we can have a parade for 1-2 hours once a year on a public holiday?

Donna Murphy (Maldon, 2023-04-06)

#56

So much of our traditions are disappearing and after such a long time I believe that allowances should be made to continuing this event.

Gregory Brown (MALDON, 2023-04-06)

#57

Freedom of life

Heather Downing (White Hills, 2023-04-06)

#58

Long time resident of this town, as this parade is a public holiday the Truck traffic should be minimal.
A permanent bypass should be made for B Double vehicles due to the vibrational damage caused to our historic buildings. Recent changes to the towns streets road increase potential for accidents. NOT a truck friendly route

Dennis Prosser (Maldon, 2023-04-06)

#59

I’m signing this petition because I support the continuance of the historic Easter Parade at Maldon using the High Street/Main Street route. Relocation of the parade is not feasible in our small town and closure of High Street for two hours once a year is essential if the event is to continue. Use of signs advising drivers to find alternative routes should not cause problems for such a short period of time once a year.

Judy Hopley (Maldon, 2023-04-06)

#60

Having attended the maldon Easter parade last year I saw first hand the importance of the event and how it brought the whole community together. Traditions like this are important to a small community like maldon and should allowed to continue as they always have.

Ben Barnes (Sydney, 2023-04-06)

#63

Allowing B double truck traffic through the notable town of Maldon is both dangerous and ridiculous. The streets are too narrow. The buildings too old. And it’s a tourist town with large numbers of tourist vehicles, foot traffics and other means of transport. I am vehemently opposed to VicRoads allowing this inappropriate change to transport routes.

Jill Hobbs (Bridgewater on Loddon, 2023-04-06)

#64

My family is from Maldon and its an Easter tradition to get the wider family from Castlemaine and Bendigo to catch up as part of a family day.

Jillian Annand (Airport West, 2023-04-06)

#65

I am a local and this is a historically significant event

Brock O’Hara (Tarrengower, 2023-04-06)

#67

It’s in integral part of the community

Charlotte Debenham (Mornington, 2023-04-06)

#69

There are not many traditions still standing these days, they’ve all been ruined one way or another. Let Maldon continue their tradition, the b-doubles can seek an alternative route for a few hours. It’s a public holiday anyway, the traffic on this particular will be minimal anyway.
Don’t be miserable and let the tradition stand. This day is huge for Maldon & surrounds and it’s important for the community.

Courtney Conway (Ravenswood, 2023-04-06)

#70

VicRoads are being completely unreasonable. Let Maldon keep the Easter parade.

Robyn Thiessen (Walmer , 2023-04-06)

#71

The parade should be allowed to proceed on its traditional route as it has for 146 years.

wendy steward (wheelers hill , 2023-04-06)

#73

I agree that the Easter parade should l d continue & Bdoubles should divert from the historic town centre

Amanda Jones (Maldon, 2023-04-06)

#76

I live in Maldon and it’s our tradition

Dave Brown (Maldon, 2023-04-06)

#78

I have been to Maldon and been a part of the Easter parade, its the best! Would be a shame to change it.

Linda Mattschoss (Bordertown, 2023-04-06)

#79

Community events are vital to country towns. Don't let Maldon loose such a long standing parade.

Leanne Bowe (Castlemaine, 2023-04-06)

#80

The community of Maldon should come before the convenience of a few B
-double transports - especially on a gazetted public holiday!

Stuart Kelly (Ballarat West, 2023-04-06)

#89

I am sick of tradition being taken over by beurocrats leave Maldon Easter Parade alone vic roads and all that come after. And bugger off big trucks through Maldon

Julie Thompson (Maldon , 2023-04-06)

#90

Ancestors helped build the outskirts of Maldon. With its 200 yearold + buildings i fear for the future of the town This is not the Vic Roads should do it.

Grigg Angela (Bacchus marsh, 2023-04-06)

#92

Closing the road for 2 hrs on a public holiday after 146 yrs shouldn’t be a problem. Bdoubles could use Fogartys Gap and Allan’s rds as a bypass or else join in a watch the parade!

Lorraine Swift (Barkers Creek, 2023-04-06)

#93

I came Castlemaine/ Maldon and have lived in both places and as my father said if it’s not broken don’t fix it

Lyn Cooper (Nathalia , 2023-04-06)

#96

We need to allow the Easter Parade to close Main Street for our historical parade, once a year. We are Australia's First Notable Town and the parade has used the same route for 146 years.

Debbie McDonald (Maldon, 2023-04-06)

#97

Andrew Henderson (Harcourt North , 2023-04-06)

#98

Maldon Easter fair parade is iconic and the town needs its quaintness protected.

Laura Maywood (Bendigo, 2023-04-06)

#100

As a local this is a fantastic long running tradition that greatly supports the town, and brings visitors frim far and wide and family’s together. For what is a fantastic day and parade and incredible to have such a ling running parade etc still running today after 145 years. Lets support this.

karena turner (Mckenzie hill, 2023-04-06)

#101

Save maldons Easter parade!

Richard Caig (Ararat , 2023-04-06)

#104

I believe the Easter Parade to be of critical importance and value to our tiny historic town. It involves the whole local community as well as tourists and other visitors. Funds raised are put back into the community to meet needs. It is a continuous historic event and vitally important.

Bev Sattler (Maldon, 2023-04-06)

#107

This is my dad's home town , he maybe gone but its a special part of Maldon. I was lucky enough 2 years ago to go to the parade I'd been to in my childhood. Worth saving for all families to enjoy

Vikki Ash (Mooroopna, 2023-04-06)

#110

The tradition of the parade and the historical significance of the town should take precedence over trucks being able to pass/speed through. If speed cameras were set up just about every truck that drives through Maldon would be booked.

Belinda Marshall (Baringhup, 2023-04-06)

#112

I live in the area and this tradition should be respected

Salong Mounarath (Tarrengower , 2023-04-06)

#113

My grandparents lived in castlemaine and I still have relatives in the area. We lived in Campbell’s creek for 18 years and this has always been a fabulous Easter Parade and a huge tradition in the area. Maldon does not need these trucks invading it’s beautiful unique township at all let alone at the demise of such wonderful traditions.
Let it live on for generations to come.

Ruth Dean (Melbourne , 2023-04-06)

#116

This is a great tradition and event for the Maldon community and surrounds

David Gibbsy (Bendigo, 2023-04-06)

#117

Keep a 146 year old tradition alive

Karen Woodhart (Portarlington , 2023-04-06)

#118

The parade is the culmination & crowning glory of the 5 day celebration that is the Maldon Easter Fair. It is vital that it continues in its current format via High, Main & Templeton Streets showcasing the backdrop of unique historical architecture that is the heart of Australia’s First Notable Town. Relocating it to a myriad of back streets would be a travesty. Detours have been seamlessly organised in the past with no disruption to traffic flow. Common sense must prevail VicRoads.

Lynda Bullen (Maldon, 2023-04-06)

#119

There is no others route possible and I’d hate to see it end.

Kylie Cunningham (Wedderburn, 2023-04-06)

#122

The Maldon parade is an amazing, community based, historic event that needs to be supported by local government and VicRoads.

Claire Chalklin-McDonald (Bendigo, 2023-04-06)

#123

History, culture and the value and meaning of such traditions must be upheld for future generations.

Angela Jane (Geelong, 2023-04-06)

#125

Every town should be supported with their traditional routes in having town parades that have been going for many years.

Jacob Hawke (Bairnsdale , 2023-04-06)

#126

This parade is tradition! How ridiculous to refuse road closure for 2 hours and on a public holiday!

Adrienne Williams (Lauriston, 2023-04-06)

#129

The Maldon Easter parade is a tradition that needs to continue and for the road to be closed for 2 hrs is only a short time.

Christine Marks (Drummond, 2023-04-06)

#130

This parade has been running for generations, please keep it as it is!

Colinda Mannix (Harcourt, 2023-04-06)

#131

It’s important for communities to come together is a safe family environment and the parade is a way to celebrate the community

Naomi Clee (Maldon, 2023-04-06)

#133

This Easter parade has been a tradition in Maldon every year for 145 yrs. Why suddenly is it an imposition for traffic, of any sort.

Patricia Hale (Rosewood , 2023-04-06)

#134

To destroy the strongly upheld tradition of so many years in order to allow B-double trucks to pass through a town they should never have been given access to in the first place is completely wrong.

Trevor Sharpe (Kangaroo Flat, 2023-04-06)

#135

Maldons procession needs to go ahead every year

Chris Bolitho (Bundaberg , 2023-04-06)

#137

I've been going almost every year since I was about 8 or less.

Phill Zdybel (CORIO , 2023-04-06)

#138

Grew up in Maldon, played in the brass band for many years. History in motion, and should be kept alive!

Tim Cutlack (Carlton, 2023-04-06)

#143

Maldon is a special place to be at Easter and there is no place for traffic in a parade with so many spectators and walking/riding participants.

Gen Lyons (Golden Square, 2023-04-06)

#146

I’m signing because sometimes history and community values trump silly rules (road rules in this case). I’m hoping common sense prevails

Tim Lauder (Maldon, 2023-04-06)

#147

Our Easter Parade must continue, unhindered by VicRoads. B-double trucks should never have been given access to Maldon's historic precinct. They should be completely banned.

Julie Alexander (Maldon, 2023-04-06)

#148

I totally agree with the trucks being redirected for approximately 2hrs to allow such an important and historic event to take place. You can’t just cancel 146 years of anything!!!! Useless VIC ROAFS doing nothing good when there’s something so CRUCIAL and important to a small town.

Robinson Mary (Lockwood, 2023-04-06)

#149

The parade must go on for ever , the historical significance of the parade and the town should not be governed by a truck route that will destroy the already damaged roads and infrastructure in the town

Darryn Cutlack (Campbells Creek, 2023-04-06)

#150

I’m a third generation born Maldonite and grew up in Maldon and participated in many Easter Processions as did all my family. This Procession attracts many, many visitors to Maldon, who generate much income to local businesses. Maldon is known far and wide for the Easter activities.

Sandra Jacobs (Ringwood East, 2023-04-06)

#152

I grew up in Maldon and I support this very important tradition

Nikita Connell (Geelong, 2023-04-06)

#154

I agree with the statements outlined in this petition.

Naomi Ngo (Maldon, 2023-04-06)

#156

I grew up in Maldon, I have been to every parade since my childhood (38yrs) & been an entry in at least 30 of those years.
Give road users the warning about the road closure in advance & leave the parade alone. Bendigo holds parades & the trucks take alternative routes. I'm sure the traffic can do this in Maldon, like they had been the last 140+ years.

Leah Percival (Bendigo , 2023-04-06)

#157

Because I grew up there and love this town

Kimnphil Woodman Loria (Newsteed , 2023-04-06)

#158

Surely Vic Roads can see the value in a community tradition. With proper signage traffic could be warned in advance. Traffic in Melbourne has to be diverted often eg for rail upgrades. This is only a 2 hour disruption.

Jo Ride (Maldon, 2023-04-06)

#159

My family are from Maldon

Leanne Peters (Bendigo, 2023-04-06)

#160

So important for this event to continue as is. Can't believe a road can't be closed for 2 hours once a year. Surely trucks can detour for this short time. Or wait and enjoy the procession.😀🐇😊🐇

Judy Wagstaff (McKenzie Hill, 2023-04-06)

#161

I live locally and enjoy the event

Bin Bin (3450, 2023-04-06)

#165

I've been going to the Maldon easter parade every year since i was little and i am now 34 and for the past 7 years have been bringing my daughter.
its an awesome event and shouldn't be taken away.

Melissa Andrew (Eaglehawk, 2023-04-06)

#167

The Easter parade is a very important event in this area. The fact that VIC Roads has even allowed this to be a designated truck route is ridiculous. It is not a suitable area. The Maldon Newstead road is too narrow for these vehicles.

Linda Shaw (Welshmans Reef, 2023-04-06)

#168

I'm signing because Maldon is my town a small regional town that relies on Easter parades and such. It has been a tradition of this first notable town for many years

Orlena Charleston (WALMER you , 2023-04-06)

#169

I believe the Parade should continue in its current form forever. It needs to be recognised for its importance to the community and its long standing tradition.

James McDonald (Lauriston, 2023-04-06)

#170

Please keep important traditions that have underpinned our society for so long and foster unity and goodwill. Communities need more opportunities, especially post-Covid, to celebrate together. High St is the best venue for this event and should be maintained.

Phil Zamagias (Moama, 2023-04-06)

#172

I am signing this because some traditions should be kept and this is one of them. Big trucks should be diverted around the town.

Vicki Birnie (Karratha, 2023-04-06)

#173

Because that is a pathetic reason for stopping it. Firstly the trucks can easily find another route and let's not get pushed around by the left.

Paul9 Long (Castlemaine vic, 2023-04-06)

#174

As a former resident these events are crucial to the continuation of community connections. These events bring everyone together forging friendships and connections that would otherwise be lost.

Louise Cummins (Alexandra , 2023-04-06)

#175

This is a historic parade through a historic town. That gives joy to everyone that attends evey year
Leave it alone

Sophie Saunderson (Marong, 2023-04-06)

#176

It’s an incredibly vibrant community event which increases our resilience and spirit

Kate Renzenbrink (Maldon , 2023-04-06)

#177

I'm signing because I am not in agreement with the proposed banning of the Maldon Easter Parade on it's usual route as from next year. After 146 years of Easter Parade Tradition, Vic Roads have decided that they have the almighty authority to change the course of traditional history, by not granting permission for the parade to take it's traditional route around town. Generations of local families & tourists have lined the main street and stood underneath the front verandas of shops, taking shelter from sun & rain while they watch the annual Easter Parade go by. The parade takes less than an hour to complete 2 laps of the block before it finishes and leaves many a child & adult delighted and looking forward to the next year.
Maldon is a national & historical treasure that should be safeguarded along with it's annual traditions. I hope in your wisdom you will put people & history before trucks beurocracy. Let the children enjoy their Easter Parade and redirect the trucks & cars for 2 hours please.

Anita Zacchigna

Anita Martess Zacchigna (Bendigo , 2023-04-06)

#178

This has been an important event for the township of Maldon and surrounding areas for many years. Surely 2 hours on one day isn't too much to ask for.

What I don't understand is why VicRoads are standing in the way now when it hasn't been an issue in the past.

Vanessa Norman (Wedderburn, 2023-04-06)

#180

I am signing because this has been a tradition for 146 YEARS

Marilyn Hayes (MALDON, 2023-04-06)

#181

Let history prevail and remain alive.

Ben Butcher (Coburg, 2023-04-06)

#182

For many years (approx. 60 years) I have attended the Maldon Easter Procession. It is a great procession for such a small town. B doubles shouldn't be travelling through Maldon at Easter time anyway.

Diane Bell (Maryborough, 2023-04-06)

#183

The Centre of Maldon should be preserved from B Double traffice at all times, not just the Easter Parade.

Ines Jewell (Alfredton, 2023-04-06)

#186

I'm 56 and have attended this great community procession all my life. It would not be the same held on another route. It's fun sitting in the gutter watching the passing parade.

Donna Lawrence (Campbells Creek, 2023-04-06)

#188

This parade is of cultural significance to the area. Vehicles should be diverted or rescheduled to allow the community to celebrate its cultural heritage.

Andrew Jones (Lockwood South, 2023-04-06)

#189

I love the Maldon Easter Parade. As a child it was enchanting to see what the community created with love every year for young and all. Don't take away this wonderful tradition away from our youth and Snrs Citizen and everyone in-between. It brings business to town every year with crowds coming from neighbouring town to sample the hospitality..... Light up Tarrangower and get the Easter show on the Maldon Town's roads again....

Caroline Faulha (Cwmbran, 2023-04-06)

#192

I am a born and bred Maldon person. Have attended and been a participant of the Maldon Easter fair for many years. Have taken my family down to Maldon every Easter still to this day for Easter as it is a great time for families to get together in Maldon. Love it And want it to get going we don’t bother with Bendigo as Maldon has history for my Family and it would be a shame for it to be banned. 2 hours once a year is nothing. Surely trucks can wait

Tania Forster (Lockwood, 2023-04-07)

#195

Maldon is an historic town which deserves to keep its heritage and annual events in place . People of the town and visitors look forward to this event annually it’s a part of who they are .
Their parade needs to be left alone not lost to another road project

Andrea Sutton (Sunbury, 2023-04-07)

#196

Maldon should be preserved for the beautiful town it is with all its traditions. B doubles need to be kept away!

David Gale (Maldon , 2023-04-07)

#197

Event like these are important for small towns

Rachelle Lavados (Glen Iris, 2023-04-07)

#199

This tradition needs to continue and not be stopped due to Vic roads decisions that are baseless and unnecessary as traffic can find an alternative route or wait till the event has finished!

David Fenn (Maldon, 2023-04-07)

#200

I’ve been going to this parade ever since I can remember (as a kid). Now, I take my own son there 😊
