We, the residents of Ward 36, Germiston, hereby petition the Portfolio Committees for Mineral Resources and Energy, Forestry and Fisheries, South African Police Services, and Home Affairs to implement an Action Plan as a matter of urgency per the regulations, to address Illegal Mining in the area.

David-Hutch Barr (Primrose, 2023-04-19)

#3

It has become increasingly difficult for residents many who are also elderly and children to live in these conditions, besides the fact that one has to pay rates and live under these conditions. Its unacceptable

Lorraine Wearne (Germiston, 2023-04-19)

#4

Illegal mining and community safety

Leah Molefe (Germiston , 2023-04-19)

#6

This area has become a war zone. Dangerous for residents. Kids in our schools. Gunfire explosions every night. Dump closed because of them wanting to take over! Really!! Criminals make the rules and the man in the street has to take this???

Janet Gerretsen (Gauteng , 2023-04-19)

#7

This is a serious matter that needs to be dealt with urgently

Filipa Araujo (Germiston, 2023-04-19)

#8

I strongly agree with this petition. Gun fights on a daily basis. The illegal mining has caused entire ares of our neighborhood to be no go areas where crime has taken hold and threatens our residents and businesses. Because of the frequent closure of the landfill, the council cannot efficiently remove our refuse and are held liable by the residents for poor service delivery.

Wayne Gerretsen (Primrose, 2023-04-19)

#9

Illegal mining in the Simmer and Jack Land fill and surrounding areas Germiston. This is a danger to our community.

Sarah Van Niekerk (Germiston, 2023-04-19)

#10

The shooting's are getting out of hand now it has to be stopped

Isabel De Matos (Primrose Hill , 2023-04-19)

#11

This shootings at all hours is extremely dangerous to every resident. All feel unsafe and endangered . It's like the Wild West. This is ridiculous. The Authorities and law enforcement need to ensure as tax payers and rate paying citizens we are safe.

Thobashnee Naidoo (Primrose, 2023-04-19)

#15

This needs to be auctioned asap as there is shoot out almost every night

Darren Moodley (Germiston, 2023-04-19)

#16

I'm against illegal miners

Winnie Mhlanga (Centurion, 2023-04-19)

#18

This situation is an ongoing problem.
My domestic, her husband & 4 children live in the squatter camp, just behind her house is a hole where zama zamas are presently mining.
They cannot sleep at night with the shooting that takes place.
The police are aware of the situation, but don't get involved.
She is prepared to give a statement to the goings on there, but is too afraid to approach the necessary authorities, as it seems as though many of them are involved.

Denise Kotze (Germiston, 2023-04-19)

#19

I live close to the Simmer and Jack landfill site and am fed up with the constant smell from the tip and being kept trapped in my hone due to the constant sound of gunfire every night

I have had enough! We need to feel safe and healthy in our area again and get the service we are paying for. This is also unfair to our community who are paying and living honest lives.

Lynette Roets Lizemore (Germiston , 2023-04-19)

#25

George Monteiro (Johannesburg, 2023-04-19)

Merril Heyns (Primrose, 2023-04-19)

The Simmer & Jack mine is causing many issues for residents including health, hygiene, crime & concerns for our safety.

Vanishree Naamdhew (Primrose , 2023-04-19)

#44

I’m signing because I live in the area and it has come to a point whereby I’m tired of being scared of stepping out of my door. This cannot continue, they are infringing on our basic human right to exist

Khauhelo Rampooana (Germiston, 2023-04-19)

#45

The dangers of the illegal mining is affecting not only all the areas, homes and lives around me but my own home is directly above the mines. Everytime they use explosions it reverberates throughout my home and property. There is a primary school over the road from my home, should their be cave ins, who will answer to the parents of all those children? They are putting the lives of many many people at risk. We are living daily in fear due to explosions, possible cave-ins and gun wars.

Bridget Kruger (Germiston, 2023-04-19)

#46

I am sick of gunshots, being in fear coming and going from home, and the stench of the landfill makes us sick.

C Hodge (Primrose Germiston, 2023-04-19)

Christine Stoltz (Primrose , 2023-04-19)

#54

I live a few meters away from the Simmerfield dump and it is like a war zone some weekends. I feel we are not safe in our own homes.

Debbie Harris (Germiston, 2023-04-19)

#55

Law enforcement need to take action, what has been happening in our area and on the Simmer and Jack dumps is unacceptable, innocent people have already and are going to get hurt while criminals carry on like there's no tomorrow

#56

Too much crime

This is out of control and it isn't been taken seriously by the authorities

More action and less talk.

Shelley Bainbridge (Wychwood, 2023-04-19)

#62

I live close to the landfill and when they start shooting at each other our lives are at risk in terms of stray bullets

Gugu Patricia Ngubane (Ekurhuleni , 2023-04-19)

#63

For over 6 years im living in this neighbourhood, and the countless problems from the dump have always been there. The bad smell, frequent fires, smoke, air pollution, criminality, wete the criminals hiden inside the jack and simmer promises, frequent heavy gunshots, Ilegal mining, Main Reef Road closure, for water piping across the road to extinguish the fires, etc...

Jamu Jamu (Germiston, 2023-04-19)

#64

We the residents of Primrose need to take a stand against the criminal element ruining our surrounds and endangering our legal community .

Adele Schoombie (Germiston , 2023-04-19)

#66

I've been living in this neighborhood for 34 years and it is sad to see the deterioration of the area.
We are constantly fighting gun shots and awful smells from the dump. It's a daily occurrence.
No help from SAPS.
we as a community are alone in this.

Jenny Koutelieris (Germiston , 2023-04-19)

#69

The Simmer and Jack is a health ha and we can't breath properly and burns our throat, the criminals are active there and pose a danger to all residents in the area, there are rodents as big as cats, please sort this problem out

Emilia Duarte-Potgieter (Germiston , 2023-04-19)

I've always loved the Primrose area and community but the issue of the illegal mining is endangering everyone in the area. It's just not safe anymore

Charmaine Rossouw Wilson (Germiston, 2023-04-19)

#76

I'm signing because we are living in constant fear of our lives with illegal mining taking place at Simmer and Jack. Weekly shoot outs and daily explosions are bec9ming a norm and it is unacceptable. We have elderly people and children as well as daily traffic that have been in-between misfires when shoot outs occur. Something must be done!

Charmain Smith (Wychwood , 2023-04-19)

#77

Shooting dump stink ellegal mining pot holes

John Gerber (Germiston, 2023-04-19)

#79

I am signing as something needs to be done about the Zama Zama problem in Germiston. It is dangerous to be in the street you never know when guns are going to start firing again

Lynette Smith (Germiston , 2023-04-19)

#81

I owe property in Ward 36 and with this type of criminal activities in the surroundings could have a severe impact on my investments and the area as a whole. As legal citizens of South Africa and tax payers, this type of criminal activities are to be stopped.

Dirk Coetzee (Germiston, 2023-04-20)

#82

Area unsafe because of zama zamas. Constant shooting.

Charlene Jansen (Primrose , 2023-04-20)

#83

It's unsafe for residents of Simmerfield as It's a war zone out here every night and we can't remember when last we had uninterrupted sleep due to the gunshots

Ronette Dixon (Germiston, 2023-04-20)

#84

High crime in the area.

Bashier Nhlapo (Johannesburg, 2023-04-20)

#85

I'm signing this petition because we run an orphanage for abused, Abandoned and neglected babies not far from the dump. There are times that we can't even take the babies outside because of the stench from the landfill. With the escalating crime we have to allocate much needed finance from a strained budget, to security upgrades. It's a crying shame that government is turning a blind eye to the illegal activities happening at the landfill. Stricter law enforcement is needed in Primrose. Unfortunately these law enforcement officers are fighting a losing battle, some of them are not fighting at all. Unfortunately it's a sad state of affairs in
a suburb which was once upon a time a beautiful place to live...

There is a glimmer of hope, the Primrose CPF, street groups, security companies in the area and good upstanding citizens and a handful of SAPS men and women.

Merencia Scholtz (Germiston, 2023-04-20)

#86

I am affected directly by the landfill, cable theft and illegal mining

Jasper Subramoney (Germiston, 2023-04-20)

#89

I m signing this petition for all the crime, killing of innocent people, stealing of our position, illegal mining, streets light doesent work, dirty streets, streets neet to be fixs.

Ann Potgieter (Primrose, 2023-04-20)

#91

The shoot outs between the zamaZama gangs has escalated horrendously and has become unsafe for all.

Joanna Stephenson (Germiaton, 2023-04-20)

#93

Area has gone downhill drastically since the pandemic. Illegal activities are rife. Seems as though no progress has been made to address these issues. No street lights, paving stolen in broad daylight, gunfights every night. Crime is going through the roof.

Jared Steenkamp (Germiston, 2023-04-20)

#94

I hereby petition the Portfolio Committees for Mineral Resources and Energy, Forestry and Fisheries, South African Police Services, and Home Affairs to implement an Action Plan as a matter of urgency per the regulations, to address Illegal Mining in the area.

Amrit Dasarath (Wychwood, 2023-04-20)

#95

Extreme shooting at the landfill site between the Zama Zama’ s and the shooting continues into our suburb endangering our lives. Toxic stench from the landfill site is a serious health hazard. Street lights are not being fixed.

Cheryl Cato (Germiston , 2023-04-20)

#97

I'm signing because we constantly hear the gunshots at night and it's becoming concerning to think how safe are we in the streets if you go out. Could you get struck by a stray bullet? Then the sinkholes are threatening our neighborhood and homes. One shouldn't need to live lke this and be driven from our home and neighborhoods.

Michelle Ford (Ekhurhuleni , 2023-04-20)

#99

Our lives are in danger and it appears that the people in power only cares about their pockets and not the people who pay their salaries.

Trevor William Tew (Germiston , 2023-04-20)

#100

The illegal mining activities at Simmer and Jack Land fill site. The gun battles at the land fill site posing threat of stray bullets. the increase of crime in the area. the poorly managed dump site. damaged parameter walls.

Charles Kirk (Germiston, 2023-04-20)

#102

We are living in a dump since the increased illegal activities by illegal miners and the stence from the dump site. It is no longer save outside even in your own yard with stray bullets flying around. Our property value is in its chops and I am too afraid to family and friends over due to fearing for their safety. We have had enough of this utter disrespect for residence safety and health!

Elmarie Kohrs (Germiston, 2023-04-20)

#111

I'm a resident in the area of Wychwood, of which we have had nothing but fear and collapsing of infrastructure due to illegal miners...we are also forced to just watch our area collapse because of the crime this mine has created!

Stormy Landsman (Germiston, 2023-04-20)

#112

We fear for our lives. Our house in market but new buyers say it's to closed to a damp. The shooting what ever is going on there 24/7. Please do something about it.🙏

Hanlie Gerber (Germiston, 2023-04-20)

#113

I've lived in Simmerfield for 25 yrs, invested hard work time and money to create a safe family home.now what,we haven't had a street light for 2 yrs, our rubbish bins remain un emptied or stolen it's been 2mths since we had a evening without shooting, the streets are lined with illegal taverns who think it is normal to party all night with no regard for the residents.
In conclusion my family home is no longer a safe haven, has lost its value by 50% yet has been ere-evaluated double so the council can rake in more funds to squander. Water and lights are now a privilege due to cable theft and eskom. A very sad situation which cannot carry on. Time to stand up and demand the services and humanity we are all entitled too

Peter Telford (Germiston , 2023-04-20)

#116

We need to curb the shootings and crime in our area

The Simmer & Jack landfill has become a danger hazard and health hazard to me, my family and fellow community members, illegal miners constantly shooting at one another and stray bullets coming through our homes. Someone innocent is going to be shot, injured or killed if these illegal miners are not arrested immediately.

Osvalda Fernandes (Primrose, 2023-04-22)

#133

Really concerned for my health because of the bad bad smell form dump site
We live in fear in our own homes because of the war between the zama zamas. We can't wait for innocent civilians to be victims before police come and make useless statement and promises.

Tshidiso William Dire (Germiston , 2023-04-23)

#134

This is a huge safety issue. Stray bullet has already hit a resident in my suburb of Primrose. The roads are collapsing. This is putting everybody's lives at risk including the metro police, saps and out armed response teams. The school across the road from the illegal mining has put their pupils at risk. The police have had to chase the miners in a gunfight through the school

bryan pieters (Germiston, 2023-04-23)
