I would like the school facility re-opened for the Linkside community and sports teams

Gareth Reeves (Port Elizabeth, 2023-05-16)

#2

I want to see our children having a safe place to play sport and enjoy their neighbourhood.

Jessica Reeves (Port Elizabeth , 2023-05-16)

This is a school and if you buy a house close to or next to a school, you should know that there will be activities happening on the sports ground daily.

If you dont like the sounds coming from a school maybe move next to a church or an old age home.

We play tagrugby on Tuesday’s on this grounds and it use to be a highlight of my week.

Please open it up again.

Ruan Lundt (Gqeberha , 2023-05-16)

I want my kids on a sport field rather than in front of tv. Sport is healthy

Lucius Moolman (Port Elizabeth, 2023-05-17)

#6

I believe that we should help as a community to give opportunities to others that need it.

Elsje Elliott (Port Elizabeth , 2023-05-17)

Our girls play soccer at the school and 1 person/woman is making our girls lives difficult because the whistle "noise disturbs her" The school has been there for years, and I attended Linkside High, was known as Commercial at the time. Surely this woman knew that when she bought the house there would be activity on the sports field. Our girls want to play soccer. They are a great team of girls, parents and supporters. We just want to let our girls play the game the love, live and breathe

Bernadett Langley (Port Elizabeth , 2023-05-17)

#12

Due to a few people whose prejudice and selfish nature have spoiled the opportunities for the community to use the linkside school grounds. I truly believe the majority of the community supports this cause.

James Vlok (Port Elizabeth , 2023-05-17)

#13

It is morally not correct to close school sport grounds. It is put there for social development and for our kids to thrive. The community in the immediate surroundings was quite aware that a school is in the area when they purchased their properties and are well aware that school activities do accur at school premises...especially sport activities

Brian Ridgard (Port Elizabeth , 2023-05-17)

#14

I live next to the school grounds and would love to make use of the area to share time with my children

Gerald Schnablegger (Port Elizabeth , 2023-05-17)

Countless youth are dependent on the facility for exercise, recreation and training for competitive sport. There are other individuals who run small businesses by offering private training in athletics, cricket, rugby and tennis that make use of the school’s facilities.

The use of the fields is what keeps kids safe, out of trouble and helps them keep active. It should not have to close down to so many community members and learners because of one or two persons discomfort.

Dillian Pienaar (Gqeberha, 2023-05-17)

ACT Athletics is a respectable club that do not miss use the school grounds wile training their athletes there. Their training areas are always kept neat and tidy.

Melanie Herman (Port Elizabeth, 2023-05-17)

#21

My daughter's athletics club trains here.

Vikash Doorgapershad (Gqeberha, 2023-05-17)

#22

We as a society should encourage more physical activity, not discourage it from happening. Where athletes train should not be a factor at all in them training.

Kelly Alexander (Port Elizabeth, 2023-05-17)

#24

It is in the best interest of our youth and the general public who would like to get involved in sports and fitness.

Willem Greeff (Port Elizabeth, 2023-05-17)

#27

My child is a student of the ACT Athletics club and I see no reason why the SPORTS fields of a school cannot be used. If it was used by the school themselves there would be no issue. It is rubbish to not allow the grounds to be used for the development of sport.

Camia Geldenhuys (Port Elizabeth, 2023-05-17)

#29

Preventing the girls from playing is unjust. Furthermore - living across the road from a school will bring some level of noise. The complainant should tolerate it or else move somewhere else!

Fenner Barnard (Gqeberha, 2023-05-17)

I believe encouraging sport for all youngsters is an important duty and having competitive games uplifts the children and encourages them to stay healthy and active and away from boredom which leads to trouble. Happy noise in the neighbourhood!

We play use to play tag rugby once a week on a Tuesday afternoon on the field located in the middle of the school the furthest from any residential houses.
It is appalling to think that there are some residents that live next to a school and complain about noise!!

It's a very good and convenient location to do training. It's a good way of giving my son a means of being involved in a sport he enjoys and also keeping him active and in a safe location.

My 7 year old daughter trains with Coach T and his amazing team twice a week and it is an absolute highlight for her. She is safe and well looked after, if the sound of happy children bothers you perhaps Linkside is not the area for you!

Hayley Mason (Port Elizabeth, 2023-05-17)

My daughter Nuzar Thomas is a member of AD Astra LFA and she also plays for Linkside High School. Last year playing her first time ever soccer at the age of 14 yrs,she made the PEFA team where she represented her school. She won a award for "MOST Potential player" as well. We joined AD Astra LFA this year with high hopes.Currently we are facing challenges, where she can't as a player develop and might not reach her dream. As any student who dreams of becoming a doctor, lawyer, accountant etc,Nuzar is hoping to become a professional soccer player and also would like to represent her country South Africa one day.Sometimes we act without thinking but I truly believe that we can solve the matter and 1 day also look back and say weldone.

Children should have a safe space to do sport and other activities. This is a school facility after all. The complaining residents have no case.

Robert Deas (PE, 2023-05-17)

If the school has no problem with it being used they should be allowed.

Meagan Coetzee (Port Elizabeth, 2023-05-17)

#86

We utilise these fields for soccer and leisure. We belong to the girls soccer team that now has nowhere to practice. No where. We are currently using the grassy patch on front of the super tubes on Summerstand, when Linkside high have ample space to accomodate us. We are the majority and are infuriated by the complaint.

We played ONCE on the field furtherest away from the complainant's home, and not on the big rugby field. I don't belive there have been any other complaints registerd until this petition was signed. I belive that people were unwittingly approached and cohersed into signing this petion, without knowing the full impact of the decision. PLEASE reconsider.

Jennifer Vlok (PE, 2023-05-17)

I'm signing because my son trains at Linkside High School facility at ACT Elite Club for the past few years. This opportunity has granted my 13yr old son to participate in SASSA Primary School Events and other competitions around South Africa. Allowing this petition would be of great detriment to all athletes who makes use of the facility that Linkside High School is providing.

Riola Peters (Port Elizabeth, 2023-05-17)

I have coached at Linkside High School before and the sport has changed the lives of so many athletes. Currently Thoba Sports Consulting has provided the opportunity for underprivileged athletes to compete at elite level competitions. The organization has more then 1 athlete that has been competing in Athletics South Africa (ASA) competition. Having the school to stop this will be a major loss for all the children that have been performing at these levels. Instead I would support for the school and the athletics to be provided with the opportunity of getting more sponsors to help provide more opportunities for the youngsters especially the underprivileged.

#93

The Linkside High school grounds is a safe place for my child to practice his sport of running that he so much loves and enjoys. The school is a well managed school that has always accommodated their athletics club and all other school sports associated with their curriculum. Why close the school grounds to the public? Just to satisfy a few disgruntled persons. Surely the interest of the kids and sport activities are a well documented way of keeping kids active and learnings away from the classroom.

Stanton Freeman (Port Elizabeth , 2023-05-17)

Access to sporting facilities should not be limited. The community of Linkside and further afield need these facilities to improve their health and well-being and to assist the school in sustainably maintaining and improving the existing facilities.
