Victoria Park Traffic Lights: consultation needed

Comments

#1

I'm signing because it's an inconvenience to drivers and residents in the area. A waste of time, resources and money. There was no need to take the roundabouts away, they worked fine.

Lauren Glen (Glasgow , 2023-07-24)

#3

Getting rid of the double roundabouts is ridiculous and the traffic is now a nightmare.

Lee Wilson (Glasgow, 2023-07-24)

#8

I’m signing because of council stupidity.

James MacDonald (Glasgow, 2023-07-24)

#9

It’s utterly ridiculous and has proven to not only leave the issue it was hoping to fix remain unresolved but exacerbate the issue.

Will Murdoch (Glasgow, 2023-07-24)

#12

This is a route I use daily and feel this is an unnecessary change to a system that works well. Once again GCC have priorities all wrong when it comes to weighing up what is required and where. Terrible idea.

David Pickard (Glasgow , 2023-07-24)

#13

It should be pedestrian lights only. No need for 4 way lights.

Suzy Scott (Glasgow , 2023-07-24)

#14

I use this junction a lot, from all roads. The double roundabout works fine and the only improvement required would be pedestrian crossings which could be implemented without the full traffic light system which will surely cause further queues, delays and increased traffic using the side streets.

Kathryn Mackenzie (Glasgow, 2023-07-24)

#15

Increased congestion at temp lights - lots more traffic on Essex drive and up St Kilda Aldi causing ci festoon at busy times - when schools back it is going to be very dangerous for bikes, pedestrians to cross at top of Westland. Traffic needs to flow and 4 way lights instead of double round abouts will only ever cause problems for expressway traffic when busy - all that is needed is one lane approach to double roundabouts and zebra crossing just before approach on Westland drive.

Mrs Kirsty Brown (Glasgow, 2023-07-24)

#17

I am a local resident and do not believe the measures being put in place are appropriate nor have they been properly considered.
Other options would have been much better for all.

Nicola Murdoch (Glasgow, 2023-07-24)

#18

Full consultation needed … particularly concerned to hear that there is resulting traffic on local lanes as drivers try to avoid queues… children play in these lanes , they are not suitable for vehicles to use as alternative to main roads

Jan Hynd (Glasgow, 2023-07-24)

#21

There was nothing wrong with the roundabouts

Hywel Moore (Glasgow, 2023-07-24)

#23

This route is part of my daily commute to work and is a total disaster area since these works began. Who on earth thought this was a good idea. My daughter lives on Essex drive and the current traffic situation is dangerous with drivers trying to avoid that area.

Karen Cooney (Glasgow, 2023-07-24)

#24

This junction will cause significant volumes of congestion for road users on their commute, we can already see the impacts of this when the schools are off, vehicles not moving for 20 minutes each evening in certain places - this will be considerably worse when schools return.

Glasgow City Council did not carry out the proper consultation on suitability of the junction, it is a poor design that will impact all road users in the surrounding area and all residential properties around the junction - parking issues, noise, vehicle and light pollution. Traffic has already started speeding through alternative streets and private lanes in the area to avoid the junction. GCC have failed to follow the correct process in implementing a viable and cost effective solution.

Iain MacCallum (Glasgow, 2023-07-24)

#28

I live on Victoria Park Drive North close to the junction and the volume of sitting traffic will increase pollution levels. Furthermore it has added significant time on to any journey I make by car and parking is difficult due to traffic behind trying to get through the lights. Very disruptive and concerning about levels of pollution, I have a 2 year old who I no longer want to allow to play in front garden due to sitting traffic pollution. Majority of cars sit with engines running and the lights take 3 minutes 45 seconds to change. So there is sitting traffic all day. I also have to close my house windows because of exhaust fumes and noise from sitting traffic. Most concerned about increases of pollution and congestion not to mention what will happen when the rugby is on or any event in the park. Traffic will take a very long time to clear.

Lisa MacCallum (Glasgow , 2023-07-24)

#30

My kids go to the high school local to this roundabout, traffic is already heavy around the area meaning the school bus can be late in dropping the kids off. However the roundabout does keep traffic flowing more easily than a 4 way traffic light system.

I regularly use the Clydeside expressway, the amount of traffic backed up onto the slip road due to the back log of traffic being held up by these lights is causing chaos.

Lyndsey Kerr (Glasgow, 2023-07-24)

#31

This hasn’t be consulted on properly and the proposed solution is detrimental to residents and road users and pedestrians.

victoria Cockburn (Glasgow, 2023-07-24)

#32

This is not the best solution and there was no consultation

Debbie Glen (Glasgow , 2023-07-24)

#33

I live on Airthrey Avenue & have experienced increase dangerous driving on my road as a result of drivers trying to cut out the new traffic lights. I as well as the majority of my neighbours have young children, this change is making our streets unsafe of our children!!!

Jennifer Montgomery (Glasgow, 2023-07-24)

#35

There has been no significant consultation and the impact on the smaller local streets must be addressed

Anna Pragnell (Glasgow , 2023-07-24)

#37

I use this roundabout every day and have not noted any serious issues, now having lights will cause delays to surrounding roads, pollution increase as it’s a 4 way therefore there will always be 3 roads with idling cars.

Hilary Gossman (Glasgow, 2023-07-24)

#38

The roundabouts work. It seems like it has been done without any consultation. We live on Danes Drive and the temporary Lights are causing long tailbacks that I expect will be replicated with permanent ones, especially when schools return.

Eleanor Bell (Glasgow, 2023-07-24)

#41

This is an unnecessary traffic management project and should be replaced with zebra crossings and possibly speed bumps

David Houston (Glasgow , 2023-07-24)

#42

Totally against the idea if lights at Victoria park

Matthew Kyle (Glasgow , 2023-07-24)

#55

I do not agree with the current work being carried out.

Ala Sharp (Glasgow , 2023-07-24)

#57

The new traffic light system at the mini roundabouts on Westland Dr are completely unnecessary and are causing long hold ups in the morning and the evening commute. It will be even worse when the schools go back in August.

Lesley Campbell (Glasgow , 2023-07-24)

#63

The consultation process has not been completed. The mini roundabouts in place since the 1990s were sufficient. Traffic calming and better provision for pedestrians has not been properly considered. Installing traffic lights is just going to greatly increase traffic on adjoining side streets through this area placing more children and local community at risk from increased vehicle movements and driver frustration. The tailbacks currently being caused that are blocking the traffic lights junction at the park beyond this site pose a elevated risk of significant road traffic accident.

Colin Mackay (Glasgow, 2023-07-24)

#65

I’m signing because 1) significant delays at temporary lights already at one of the quietest times of year 2) new trend in speeding traffic in Mitre Rd and Essex Drive by traffic avoiding the new traffic chaos 3) lack of democratic dialogue.

Jack Quick (Glasgow, 2023-07-24)

#67

It’s an appalling failure and the temporary measures are bad enough - preposterous to make this permanent!

Maureen Hay (Glasgow, 2023-07-24)

#73

I'm all for more safety for pedestrians. However this 4 way traffic light is going to cause chaos as well as more pollution with cars idling.

Keep the double roundabouts and stick some speed bumps with a zebra crossing.

I've lived around here for the last 10 years and don't recall any accidents in that area.

If it is not broken, there is no need to fix it.

Thank you for wasting our tax payer money.

Allan Thomson (Glasgow , 2023-07-24)

#74

I'm signing this as traffic is utterly horrendous and has created a problem which was non existent before

Azam Iqbal (Glasgow , 2023-07-24)

#76

There was nothing wrong with the double roundabout - 4 way traffic lights are overkill.

Ross Kemmett (Glasgow, 2023-07-25)

#77

I use this road at least 3-4 times each day and see no reason for changing the roundabout system to traffic lights. This will cause unnecessarily build up of traffic and congestion. The roundabouts worked very effectively.

Louise Kerr (Glasgow , 2023-07-25)

#78

The roundabouts were working well (unless there has been accidents I am not aware of) but zebra crossing really need added to make the crossing safe, especially when I’m with my daughter

Deborah Mulholland (Glasgow, 2023-07-25)

#79

This ihas the potential to cause more harm than good and negatively impacting local residents. The flawed planning process and lack of consultation is unacceptable in todays climate and should be rectified.

Cameron Glen (Glasgow, 2023-07-25)

#82

I am signing this petition as we were not consulted on this and already seeing the impact of the traffic lights on mitre Rd and westland drive as drivers try to avoid the traffic lights. Having lived here for over 30 years we are not aware of accidents at the mini roundabout so think traffic lights are unnecessary and will cause much more problems

Dorothy McErlean (Glasgow , 2023-07-25)

#83

I use this area every day going to Scotstoun Leisure Centre and it’s horrific now. There’s no need for money being spent here at all! The existing system worked fine! Spend the money on the pot holes and weeds in the gutters!!!

Margaret Savage (Glasgow , 2023-07-25)

#86

I use this route daily and have done for 30 years. I have never been held up to this extent before and feel the traffic lights have made this junction unacceptably congested.

Lynne Allan (Glasgow, 2023-07-25)

#88

I live locally and regularly use the crossing to go to the park as a pedestrian and also drive across the roundabout regularly as a driver. Consultation is required.

Caroline Beaton (Glasgow, 2023-07-25)

#90

This is a nonsense obviously the council has not studied their decision The councillors have not given serious consideration to this situation and should seriously look again

Russell Glen (Glasgow , 2023-07-25)

#91

At all approaches the traffic will back up and just cause delays at rush hours. The council should be more efficient and consider all aspects

Carol Glen (Glasgow , 2023-07-25)

#93

This issue affects my travel locally and work commute

Sara-Jane Duffus (Glasgow, 2023-07-25)

#96

It needs thought out more before anything happens. As per usual, GCC just bulldose in.

Andy Clark (Glasgow, 2023-07-25)

#97

The environmental impact of idling cars to surrounding neighbours. There has been no consideration to local residents.

Cars already using Mitre Rd, Essex Dr, Airthrey Ave and surrounding area as a bypass. They are traveling in excess of speed limit on tight roads where multiple cars are parked. This makes crossing unsighted for pedestrians and massively increases the likelihood of serious accident.

A perfectly operational zebra crossing at Airthrey Ave and Victoria Park Drive North allows for safe passage of pedestrians. Given the proximity to the double roundabout, this should be considered as an alternate option to traffic lights. Drivers would learn that this area has multiple zebra crossings.

Traffic calming measures such as speed bumps would also reduce speed in lead up to zebra crossings making pedestrian crossings safer.

The installation of the lights won't reduce risk to pedestrains, instead it will simply move it to local roads that are being used as a bypass.

David Taggart (Glasgow , 2023-07-25)

#98

The mini roundabouts worked perfectly fine and traffic flowed freely. Impatient drivers will just cut through side streets and probably speed at the same time.
An alternative pelican crossing for pedestrians would’ve been a much better idea.

Neil Anderson (Glasgow , 2023-07-25)

#100

This is a terrible idea

Graeme Pickard (Glasgow, 2023-07-25)

#101

Not a good idea to have traffic lights there.

John Morris (Glasgow, 2023-07-25)

#102

It’s a complete farce!

Calum Lees (GLASGOW, 2023-07-25)

#105

It’s been a nightmare the length of time they take to do any work , plus Looking at what they have done seems complicated, drivers find it confusing

James Craig (Glasgow , 2023-07-25)

#107

I'm signing this petition because I am concerned about the negative impact the traffic lights solution will have on local residents.

Adam Kay (Glasgow , 2023-07-25)

#111

The work being carried out will cause chaos for car users and school pupils.

Stephen Bell (Glasgow, 2023-07-25)

#112

I live in Jordanhill and getting to and from work has become a night trying to get through this signalised junction. Queues have increased and therefore pollution which must go against GCCs ethos of reducing pollution and carbon etc. Pelican crossings on the approach would allow safe pedestrian crossing and minimise greenhouse gas emissions

Iain Franklin (Glasgow, 2023-07-25)

#115

This junction is on my daily commute

Charlie McPhee (GLASGOW, 2023-07-25)

#117

I live in Mitre Rd and can see the effects of this already. If these works are going to go ahead, more consideration needs to be given for speed calming measures along our road.
I cannot avoid using these roundabouts and they were busy at times, but they did flow well.

Laura Morton (Glasgow, 2023-07-25)

#120

I am a local residents and traffic lights at this spot are a ridiculous idea.

Mary Bell (Glasgow, 2023-07-25)

#121

I notice increased traffic on Essex Drive and roads leading towards Westbrae bridge as thet become rat-runs to avoid congestion. These roads are not suitable for through traffic.

Lewis Niven (Glasgow, 2023-07-25)

#122

Lack of consultation and traffic lights will cause more congestion.

Marian Quinn (Glasgow , 2023-07-25)

#125

The roundabouts have worked well for the past 40+ years

David Knox (Glasgow , 2023-07-25)

#126

I am a resident living nearby in Westland drive and I have noticed cars are speeding up and down the road because they have been delayed at the lights and are speeding past. I have a toddler and am even more worried about our walk to nursery. As far as I’m aware there was no consultation or explanation as to what was happening.

Bradley Potterton (Glasgow, 2023-07-25)

#127

I am resident on Westland Drive and can see no benefit to a 4 way traffic light system being put in place

Lesley Kelly (Glasgow, 2023-07-25)

#128

This is a radical change in the traffic management system with no consultation. This planned change may have a detrimental impact on local residents and traffic flow.

Janice Oliver (Glasgow, 2023-07-25)

#129

No roads project should be initiated without a full consultation process being formally concluded and all consultation responses being fully considered.

I would like to understand how the following have been considered by the Council as part of any plans to introduce 4-way lights:
1. The impact on traffic flow and road safety on the directly affected streets, as the current temporary lights are having a negative impact in all directions, including regularly blocking the junction leading from the expressway, at what is a quieter time of the year.
2. The impact on traffic flow and road safety on surrounding streets, including around St Thomas Aquinas Secondary, as the current temporary lights have increased both the volume and the speed of traffic along streets that can be used to bypass the temporary traffic lights.
3. The impact on pollution levels in the area, due to the increase in stationary traffic in the directly affected streets and general traffic in the surrounding streets.
4. Alternative courses of action, such as traffic calming measures and/or zebra crossings, and the assessment of any alternatives against the criteria set out in 1-3 above.

Chris Morton (Glasgow, 2023-07-25)

#130

I believe there is no need for the traffic light system. And also believe it is a waste of funds which could be better allocated.

Nick Doran (Glasgow, 2023-07-25)

#131

The queues are massive and that'll be even though most folk will be avoiding it! Why didnt they just put a pelican crossing in place rather than this farce!

Jacqueline Burns (Glasgow, 2023-07-26)

#134

I've lived in this area for 30 years and have never experienced, or witnessed, an issue with the mini roundabouts. The Council's actions seem unnecessary, and costly. Initiating this work without a full consultation process is also of concern.

Lesley Wilkie (Glasgow, 2023-07-26)

#139

The people in charge of this need to take a good look at themselves & wonder if they are indeed qualified for this work!

Heather MacDonald (Glasgow, 2023-07-26)

#144

The mini roundabouts WORK, lights are not needed. Idling traffic at lights means more pollution. The side roads will become dangerous rat runs.

Sheena Niven (Glasgow, 2023-07-26)

#147

Absolute stupidty of the person(s) to suggest putting lights in here. The double roundabout worked perfectly fine.

There's absolutely no need.

Amanda Mclaughlan (Glasgow, 2023-07-26)

#151

It appears not much planning has gone into this and it has already had a detrimental effect on the flow of traffic. Seems like adding crossings and keeping the roundabouts would have been a much more sensible solution.

Jacqueline Kerr (Glasgow, 2023-07-26)

#153

Sledge hammer to crack a nut.
Pedestrian crossings would have solved the issue of safety for pedestrians. A four way traffic light systems will create queues of idling engines on four residential roads. The resulting queues will create permanent rat runs on the various residential streets and lanes. I’ve been using the double roundabout for 40 years as a driver, cyclist and pedestrian. I’ve never seen an accident yet.

David Elliott (Glasgow , 2023-07-26)

#156

There is no need for traffic lights its going to cause chaos the roundabout was working perfectly well.

Andrew Brown (Glasgowt, 2023-07-26)

#160

There is no need for traffic lights it is just causing more traffic congestion than when the roundabouts were there.

Caroline Adam (Glasgow, 2023-07-26)

#164

The traffic lights evidently cause much worse traffic than previously. Completely unnecessary and us the local Residents have not been consulted. I'd like to know who signed this off to submit a complaint about them, and demand an apology.

Dorian Parker (Glasgow, 2023-07-26)

#166

I live on westland drive and this is a nightmare, constant waiting traffic outside my house as well as a bus stop. Not happy with either

Theresa Mcginley (Glasgow, 2023-07-26)

#167

Idling traffic waiting at the lights is causing fumes to build up directly beside people's houses and will have a detrimental impact to the residents. Traffic is also using other routes for example Essex Drive and Mitre Road to avoid the traffic lights and in many instances are speeding through small residential roads that cannot handle the traffic volume and speed.

Gillian McFarlane (Glasgow , 2023-07-26)

#172

I don't feel that this is the correct option for this road. The traffic is causing back ups and people will start to use Airthery drive instead.

Karen Shearer (Glasgow , 2023-07-26)

#176

I live in the area and the traffic lights are causing a serious traffic issue throughout Jordanhill

Yvonne Cloughley (Glasgow , 2023-07-26)

#177

More madness on Glasgow’s roads. The double mini-roundabout was something that actually worked well. Traffic flow was decent there and I’m not aware of any safety concerns.

Steven Paterson (Glasgow, 2023-07-26)

#178

I don’t think the change to the road layout is a good idea.

Cheryl Marshall (Glasgow, 2023-07-27)

#179

It’s unclear what problem they are trying to solve and what options have been considered. For example zebra crossings could mitigate pedestrian crossing risks. Where is the overall traffic mgt plan and provisions for light timings. I live very close and have seen no communication. How much is this work costing vs alternatives? Who initiated the work and what due diligence has been completed? Which council forums considered the perceived issue? What evidence was used?

Colleen Paton (Glasgow, 2023-07-27)

#180

I dont think the lay out was causing such a big problem, didnt need changed
Yet other junctions with no traffic lights, which have had fatalities are not even up for consideration, for example top of Lincoln Ave onto great Western road
I hope the decision makers listen to local people who actually use these roads daily

Fiona Trodden (Glasgow, 2023-07-27)

#182

Since the temporary traffic lights have been installed at Angle Gate, the volume of traffic cutting through Mitre Road, which has St Thomas Aquinas school positioned near to the Westland Drive junction, has increased significantly. Furthermore, people’s frustration of queuing at these lights has lead to many more cars speeding on this previously quiet residential road. This will lead to an accident with so many children crossing Mitre Road without looking beforehand.

Nigel Payne (Glasgow, 2023-07-27)

#186

I live and work local and the queues and congestion already is far worse ( and 2 schools with 1000 each on holiday!)than the confusion of the mini roundabouts. I want to know what other options were considered and if the space would accommodate one large roundabout

Patrick Arthur (Glasgow , 2023-07-27)

#187

The traffic is now awful! Terrible decision to change to traffic lights.

Holly Rye (Glasgow , 2023-07-27)

#188

I live at the end of Essex Dr where it meets Westland Dr. The traffic has increased since the works began and there are long queues up Westland Dr and on Victoria Dr North and along the park now which means increased pollution. There is no need for traffic lights. We used to have one roundabout which was perfectly sufficient, then the Council changed it to two roundabouts which confused many people. Please re-instate one roundabout.

Ute Barrett (Glasgow, 2023-07-27)

#191

As a user of the Scotstoun sports centre I currently have no issues driving to the centre
Already the temporary lights have caused significant delays and I have watched many cars turning around on Danes drive and going on to Dumbarton Road. I suspect the permanent lights will cause similar behaviour with drivers now enduring unecessary delays.

Andy Cramb (Glasgow , 2023-07-27)

#192

The double roundabout is a more efficient use of time. Traffic lights will lead to backed up traffic.

Maura Kearney (Glasgow , 2023-07-27)

#193

Worried about the new arrangement and safety

Carrie Chalmers (Glasgow, 2023-07-27)
