Let us take action against the greed and cruelty of the US company whose search for shale gas in Romania is causing hundreds of people to lose their land, health and homes. Shocking videos of the cruelty and the injustice that are taking place in the village Pungesti have been uploaded all over the online space, yet no measures have been taken by any European institution. The method of hydraulic fracturing, utilised by the company in order to generate gas, has been forbidden in France because of its harmful effects. Villagers are dying in protests against the American project, the water in the area has been contaminated and Romanian riot police forcibly removes protesters from the makeshift camps next to Chevron's drilling site, which Greenpeace announced as "a serious abuse against the freedom of expression".

Let the following video serve as an example of the current situation.

Hundreds of these people can not move from their homes being abused by the police, while Chevron is continuing fracking opperations guarded by police.

People of Pungesti, Romania, are seeking international protection. This is an extract from their appeal:

"...We are living a terrible tragedy in Pungesti Village of Romania. The Government of Romania betrayed us and Chevron starts fracking operations in this village without locals consent. We are asking for an independent expertise and help in proving the existing quality of the drinking (underground) water in this village before the drilling operations start. Thank you very much! Please contact us as people of the Pungesti village are desperate and terribly frightened..."

Nobody is on these people's side. It is outrageous that in 21st century our sense of decency has been completely erased by greed.

Every signature makes a difference. Help these people today by signing the petition.

The United Nations Human Rights Treaty System will consider any petition signed by at least 1000 people.
