The purpose for fair consideration for final year Marketing management students at Nelson Mandela University

  1. I am writing this as a concerned student at Nelson Mandela University specifically representing the final year Marketing management students at NMU. We have recently undergone an evaluation process that left many of us frustrated, disappointed and questioning the fairness of the current examination policy.
  2. The primary issue we wish to address is the evaluation for the International Marketing module BBH3011 which it's examination counts for 65% of the final year or semester mark. We understand the importance of this module and need for a comprehensive assessment.
  3. However we believe the assessment process is extensively stringent, particularly circumstances surrounding the administration of the examination.
  4. It is important to note this examination marked the first instance which we had an opportunity to physically write an examination during the 2 to 3 years of enrolling in this course.
  5. The transition from online assessment to traditional examination setting is a significant adjustment for any student, let alone final year students who have adapted to virtual learning for an extended period, infact since the beginning of enrolling in the course.
  6. This sudden change in assessment format has significantly impacted our performance and should be taken into consideration when evaluating our results.
  7. We propose the University administration review the requirements for a re examination for the International Marketing module.
  8. It is our sincere belief that expanding the criteria for reassessment  will compensate for the inherent disadvantages faced by students who did not achieve the minimum threshold of 45% to qualify for the re-exam.
  9. Inorder to ensure a fair opportunity for all students we suggest alternative factors should be considered when allowing students to write the re examination.
  10. One effort could be to consider the class mark achieved through the semester, as reflects our consistent effort and engagement in the module.
  11. Alternatively adjusting the percentage threshold for re examination qualification would provide a more realistic opportunity for those who fell slightly short of the required mark.
  12. We understand that academic standards must be upheld and we are not trying to undermine the importance of a rigorous evaluation process.
  13. Our intention is to simply request a reevaluation of the current policies and to advocate for a more compassionate approach towards Nelson Mandela University final year Marketing management Diploma students.
  14. Our academic journey has been challenging and diverse from transitioning to online and from, to traditional learning, and we believe it is only fair to be given a chance to showcase our knowledge and capabilities in a manner that does not excessively penalize us for the unique circumstances we faced as the first students in the history of Nelson Mandela University to transition from online learning and assessment to traditional learning and assessments during our final year as Marketing Management Diploma students.
  15. In conclusion we humbly and kindly request your assistance with this matter and ask for a thorough review of the examination policy regarding the International Marketing module.
  16. By doing so you would not only be providing relief to students but also upholding the principles of fairness and inclusiveness that Nelson Mandela University stands for.

Thank you for considering this petition. We hope for a positive resolution that considers the best interest of final year Marketing management students and the University at large.
