This petition is in support of the name change of the BTW Auditorium to the “S.L. Roundtree Theatre at Booker T. Washington High School.  There is rich history in the BTW Auditorium that lasted throughout several school years.  He may have taught your mother, maybe your grandmother, which was decades before he would have the opportunity to teach you.   Whether he taught dance, art or just your theatre instructor, Mr. Samuel L. Roundtree was not only an arts advocate, but he pioneered the arts movement in the Hampton Roads area.   During his tenure at Booker T. Washington High School, he oversaw the development and the introduction of the Academy for Visual and Performing Arts.    Along with his resilient energy, respectful charming personality and unmatched wittiness: for over 40 years, Mr. Roundtree has given sound advice, guidance, encouragement, constructive criticism, and love for everyone he encountered.   Even while simultaneously running his own studio, Mr. Roundtree still remains an irreplaceable dedicated member of our community. Please sign the petition to honor a wonderful man, Mr. Samuel L Roundtree for his outstanding dedication to Norfolk Public Schools Booker T. Washington High Academy of the Arts by renaming the BTW Auditorium to the “S.L. Roundtree Theatre at Booker T. Washington High School.” Thank you in advance for signing this petition.
