U.S. Military Spending Reform

The United States spent $716 billion on national defense and military operations in 2013.  This rate of spending is going to be cut due to a massive spending cut bill deemed the "Sequestration".  One of the areas affected most by the sequestration is defense spending.  The sequestration is scheduled to cut over $500 billion from the defense budget over the next ten years.  These cuts leave our nation very vulnerable to many different threats that may arise.  According to the sequestration legislation, personnel, health care, and other defense costs will become virtually 100 percent of the military budget in 10 years, leaving almost no funds for force additions, troop training, or equipment upgrades.  My petition is to decrease the severity of the proposed sequester cuts to a rate that will not be detrimental to national security.  Also, I propose that at least 10% of the military budget goes directly to the three branches of the military to maintain equipment and provide troops with necessary supplies and training to defend our country.
