WhatsApp must not fall

Don't let these bullies touch our WhatsApp! We've paid way too much for way too long to communicate with friends, family and colleagues before WhatsApp, and now corporate giants MTN and Vodacom, and the goverment (who is already responsible for umpteen poor decisions that have negatively impacted our economy) want to drain our pockets yet again! Take note that currently CellC is not part of this shameless group of bullies – you may want to also consider migrating your number to CellC like I am. If we hold these big network providers ransom like they do us, maybe they'll chang their ringtone.

"Over-the-top (OTT) internet services, such as WhatsApp, could be regulated in South Africa depending on the outcome of planned Parliament hearings this month.

OTT services - which range from WhatsApp to Skype and Google Hangouts - allow users to make messages and calls over data networks - often at comparatively lower costs than traditional telephone calls or SMS.

OTT services like WhatsApp have rocketed in usage in South Africa with over 10 million users in the country, according to a recent report by World Wide Worx and Fuseware.

Amid this growth, South Africa's two biggest mobile networks Vodacom and MTN last year called for regulation of OTT services in South Africa." (Source: All4woman)
