APPEAL TO THE GOVERNMENT OF MEGHALAYA FOR CONSTITUTION OF AN INDEPENDENT BOARD FOR SAFEGUARDING THE RIGHTS AND WELFARE OF THE LINGUISTIC MINORITY COMMUNITIES LIVING IN THE STATE OF MEGHALAYA

Meghalaya Linguistic Minority Development Forum (MLMDF) is a registered Forum formed on the 22nd of March 2022. The MLMDF is an initiative and collective effort of Linguistic Minority communities of Meghalaya, with an aim to protect the rights available to the minorities under the various laws in effect. The Linguistic Minorities of Meghalaya are the permanent residents of Meghalaya and are entitled to the various rights enshrined in the Constitution of India.

The Linguistic Minorities are a minuscule population in the state of Meghalaya and are reducing every year as we have been and are being deprived of our fundamental rights. The fact that our political and administrative powers have been curtailed and we are not allowed to purchase land or engage in business freely, faced with frequent assault during our day-to-day life which has created extreme fear & sense of insecurity in the minds of the linguistic minorities.

Successive State governments have failed to protect our lives and properties. We therefore, humbly appeal to you and request you to support us in our legitimate cause and endeavour by collectively APPEALING TO THE GOVERMENT TO FORM THE MEGHALAYA LINGUISTIC MINORITY DEVELOPMENT BOARD that will listen to the greviences, safeguard the rights and for the overall welfare of the linguistic minority communities living in Meghalaya.

While we appeal and pressurize the Goverment to form the Linguistic Minority Board, the Meghalaya Linguistic Minority Development Forum (MLMDF) which at present consists of members from 9 linguistic minority communities in Meghalaya, is working hard to help the underpriviledged of the linguistic minority communities by creating awareness amongst them regarding their legetimate rights, providing free medical camps, donating books and stationary to children of families who cannot afford it, offering legal assistance to members whose greviences are not being addressed etc, etc.

All expenditures of these activities are being done by contributions given by members which is  insufficient compared to our goal and to keep our forum running.
