York is one of the UK's most important cities. The Cathedral dominates the sky line and always should. There is no room for a mosque in one of our most Culturally rich and Historic cities. Is nothing sacred. Will they not be happy until every vestige of our Christian culture has vanished. No I guess not.

The whole Idea is to attract more muslims to every area they can so they are spread far and wide across the UK and the rest of the world. When they build a mosque, to them it means they have conquered that land...

of every other religion and european  community member to come here and take our jobs(from bombardier and other hard working families who already paid taxes...) and dilute our national anglo saxon culture and yet not support the christianity which has grown up in these isles for the last 1 1/2 thousand years!!

york like canterbury is the emblem of the birth of institional chistianity from BEFORE! the time of the crusades against eastern infidels.....

no way!!!!! England sent men to the crusades to fight the muslum invasion of europe way back then. YORK minster is the tallest thing in the city and should stay that way for years to come!!!!!!!!!!.

Build it without the dome and minarets this is not in keeping with York,s heritage and historic buildings and ancient heritage ...

hell im sure that 2 million pound that this mosque is costing to build could be spent on a lot of better things in york.another waste of tax payers money.

There is another political spend in order to gain votes! Tax payers funding muslum buildings? When will people see that the black flag (bollocks!) of islam will not be flown over every city in the world and that this is a power trip built on the back of weak minded individuals that have never fought for anything in their life. 24 years serving Queen and Country, thanks!

i think it is an absolute insult to the people of york to want to build this design in our beautiful CATHEDRAL city! York is visited by millions every year for its cultural and historical heritage, and architecture, to think that in a few years i could be driving down the ring road n look out over the horizon at the view of the minster and the morrisons chimney stack and terrys n rowntrees that symbolize york's industrial input to the world, to see it spoilt by a new 3 storey mosque with dome and minarets!! I am not against the building of a new mosque, if you have seen the current one you would agree that it is an eyesore, i just dont see why it needs a dome and minarets! The design should be more in keeping with yorks local surroundings and not spoil the view of yorks beautiful sky line. After all like they said they will not be doing the morning call to prayer so why have the minarets. Not even new build churches have towers anymore!!

Replacing the current mosque with a larger one is not a problem, however the addition of domes and minarets is an unnesceray exercising of influence and power over the area. By all means each religion should have it's place of worship, but modern society does not call for this to be dominating the skyline or imposing itself on neighbourhoods.

The government/council is not funding the project. The £2 million is paid for by the Muslim community itself.

It's their money - not tax money or government funding or grants

The York skyline is dominated by the Minster . I believe it's been made perfectly clear that this will not change and that the proposed domes and minarets will not dominate the skyscape of the surrounding area

I didn't realise York was populated by so many imbeciles. The government does NOT fund the building of mosques. They are funded privately. Anyone with any knowledge of York knows there is little risk of it becoming a haven for ANY minority group - whether they be black, Chinese, Hispanic, or Muslim. York is by no means a melting pot and if it's "Britishness" is at risk it is more likely a result of White capitalist driven consumerism than by a small Muslim population.
