Of my 40 years on earth, 25 have been in Smiths Falls. After living in larger centres, I have come to realize the unique, strong sense of community Smiths Falls has. What makes a community strong, can certainly be argued to be a very “personal” definition. For me, I feel strength comes from trust, of repeated, predictable actions, so that the moral values of the greater whole are very similar in alignment. This is how I felt growing up in Smiths Falls….This is not the feeling I have now and I would have least thought it would be the sentiment amplified by the majority of the current council members. How can you even claim the “optics” of democracy on this topic?

I completely stand for the safety and convenience of angle. Maintaining parking spaces available with angle is imperative for the increase in tourism expected.

New council should not have redone the vote. This will take parking spot and revenue away from many businesses and town. What happened to building a great town. It screws the small businesses when people start going to large box stores with lots of free parking. The whole vote seems very underhanded to say the least.

#604

Think it will reduce parking to less than 1/2 what it is now. Won't allow small businesses to survive. Bicycles don't bring $ to town.

I lived in Smiths Falls from 1998 until 2003. I cherish my time there. But before I moved into Smiths Falls, I enjoyed driving through the town on my way to Black Lake to see relatives. An outsider at the time I loved to see the angled parking. For those against you really must have no idea how unique it is to see angled parking. It part of your city your heritage. Keep it..

If the parking is changed on Beckwith Street it will effect the ability to get a parking space in this area at all, which in turn will hurt all or any business located on Beckwith

#608

There is no need to change parking, fix things that are broke.

(Smiths Falls, 2019-02-28)

I was raised in Smiths Falls and currently raising my young daughter in this town! We need to keep angle parking on Beckwith street!

(Smiths Falls, 2019-03-01)

#613

angle parking is better....

(Lombardy, 2019-03-02)

#614

We have great pride in our beautiful wide front street with angled parking, a distinct advantage over and envy of other communities forced to struggle with narrow front streets and parallel parking.
How can a ‘professional consultant’ in downtown planning not see the benefits of this asset and maintaining it? Town Council should listen carefully to the wise counsel of the people on this matter.

(Smiths Falls, 2019-03-04)

Born and raised. Over 50 family members and many more friends living or from my hime town...my uncle jack traynor served on council along with former mayor staples...i support this group and my good friend karen salters efforts to teach this council some hard lessons...

(Vancouver, 2019-03-04)

#621

What’s even more ludicrous than the plans for new parking is our council not listening to it’s public.

(Smiths Falls , 2019-03-08)

#622

Leave the street the way it is and stop using the rotten pipes under it as an excuse.

(Smiths Falls, 2019-03-08)

#623

I reside in smiths falls. I want to maintain our heritage.

(smiths falls, 2019-03-08)

(Smiths Falls, 2019-03-08)

#625

I am signing this petition because I drive a lot in Ottawa and I personally believe that angled parking is more convenient.

(Smith Falls, 2019-03-08)

#626

I visit often and shop there - family history in Smiths Falls goes back decades - It is extremely wrong what your elected officials are trying to do.

(Kanata, 2019-03-08)

#627

I am tired of our council wasting money on things that have already been dealt with.

(Smiths falls, 2019-03-08)

#628

I am a property owner and business owner in Smiths Falls.

(Smiths falls, 2019-03-08)

We are a small town, we don’t need to bring a city feel to our heritage town... yes there could be beautification done but why change our small town charm... perth has parallel parking and I near have a panic attack just driving through the main part of town due to people flinging their car doors and bodies into oncoming traffic without looking ... and there is never any parking even 3 -4 blocks away from you destination...

(Smiths Falls, 2019-03-09)

#630

Too many reasons to list hear, contact me if you’d like a list.

(Smiths Falls , 2019-03-09)

#631

We have lost enough heritage we have the Cataraqui Bike Trail from Ottawa to Kingston why would we connect through a downtown core when it can easily go on the truck route, George st many options.

(Lombardy, 2019-03-14)

#632

I want to keep angle parking, there was no consultation in changing the decision of the original decision of council and Mayor Pankow voting for option 1 last year. Obviously the Mayor has and had an agenda at the time but couldn't muster the votes to push it through. If the voting public knew then what they know now, Mr. Pankow would have never been elected for a second term.

(Smiths Falls, 2019-03-14)

#633

I believe changing angle parking is a waste of tax payers money, we need to preserve our heritage and I believe the residents of Smiths Falls are being ignored and disrespected by the town council.

(Smiths Falls, 2019-03-14)

#634

Keep angled parking

(Smiths fls, 2019-03-14)

#635

Smith's Falls is my hometown and want to see it's charm preserved.

(Brockville , 2019-03-18)

#636

The method council used to push this through was deceitful.

(Smith Falls, 2019-03-25)

#637

I find its sometimes very difficult to find a parking spot on Brockville St. As a handicapped person, parallel parking will be useless for me to even try to support businesses downtown. Please leave the parking as is!

(Smiths Falls, 2019-03-27)

#639

The change does not make sense

(Smiths falls, 2019-03-27)

#640

leave the way it is angel

(smith falls, 2019-03-27)

#641

I am signing because I feel that changing our towns Main Street takes away from our town

(Smiths Falls, 2019-03-29)

#642

I’m signing because of democracy.

(Ottawa, 2019-03-31)

#643

I think parallel parking is stupid. Especially after the people spoke and voted for angled parking. Respect voters and follow common sense. Do what’s right!

(Ottawa, 2019-04-01)

#644

Keep angled parking, listen to the town’s people. Parallel parking will create more problems then you think. We don’t need bike lanes that will end to nowhere. It’s our heritage, and why fix what isn’t broken.

(Smiths Falls , on, 2019-04-03)

#645

I don't like parallel parking as it can cause damages to the three cars that are there i know as i have seen it happen more than once I have lived in city's were you see it all the time.

(Smiths Falls Ont., 2019-04-03)

#646

I support Option 1.

I want to keep angled parking to preserve the heritage of downtown Smiths Falls.

(Smiths Falls, 2019-04-14)

I feel that our mayor and many councilors are ignoring the constituent that they were elected to represent!

(Smiths Falls , 2019-04-14)

#650

(Toledo, 2019-04-14)

#651

I grew up in SmithsFalls and have always loved the angled parking.I still shop there and find angled parking easy.I vote to please keep angled parking.

(SmithsFalls, 2019-04-14)

#653

I believe in the democratic process. The town council of Smiths Falls is not listening to the people. They have their own agenda. I support angled parking, not parallel.

(Smiths Falls , 2019-04-15)

#654

The people of this town deserve to be heard.
Council had behaved in a deplorable manner.

(Smiths Falls , 2019-04-15)

#655

I don’t like how this all changed from what was confirmed last February. Parallel parking is part of our heritage and makes us envied by other towns that can’t have it.

(Smiths Falls, 2019-04-15)

#656

I am signing because I was a tax payer in Smiths Falls for 12 years and left because of the lack of concern for my opinion as a Smiths Falls Native, born there, Family Business, Gilhuly 2011.
New Non Native views outweighed Native opinions of Historical Concerns.
Now it’s happening again with Beckwith St.... “They paved paradise and put up a parking lot”....,

(Ottawa, 2019-10-22)

I do all of my shopping in Smiths Falls and always have. I reside in the township of Rideau Lakes and support angle parking.
