#3619

Im a musician and creative designer.

(Benoni, 2019-03-27)

#3623

I am a musician and feel I need to try protect my intellectual property.

(Cape Town, 2019-03-27)

#3626

I am a firm supporter of the ideology that the arts community contributes a substantial amount of value, both economic and otherwise to the socio-infrastructure of our nation. Bearing that in mind, it is crucial to protect the incentives and interests of the constituents that make up this irreplaceable and invaluable sector of our country’s fabric. I sign this petition to protect the soils laid down by previous creators, that our present artists currently sow upon, so that future creators may enjoy harvests for years to come.

(Cape Town, 2019-03-27)

#3633

I am a musician and I need to protect my rights. It’s my source of income and I need it for my livelihood.

(Johannesburg, 2019-03-27)

#3636

As a creative I feel that I am not represented properly by this copyright bill.

(Johannesburg, 2019-03-27)

#3637

I'm signing because I believe that the bill will result in less protection of musicians. Musicians need more protection to promote new creations. The community as a whole will then benefit

(Centurion , 2019-03-27)

#3639

I value the rights of creatives around the world, and in South Africa. We should own our own thoughts, and that will give value to those who seek inspiration in those thoughts.

(Cape Town, 2019-03-27)

#3641

The bill is open ended and hurts all form of IP and ownership for people that need it most. The bill doesn’t favor the author and creator of the work. It is unconstitutional at its core.

(Jhb, 2019-03-27)

#3642

The copyright amendment contains the seeds of corporate takeover by major copyright manipulators like google. Don’t throw away our creative rights, the North has already exploited us enough!

(Johannesburg, 2019-03-27)

#3649

It is important that musicians stand up for their rights and the government assists in the protection of creator’s rights, as this is sometimes the only income a creator may generate.

(Johannesburg , 2019-03-27)

#3650

Artists rights for fair remuneration should not be eroded by government

(Cape-Town , 2019-03-27)

#3651

It's clear the legislation is deeply flawed.

(Johannesburg, 2019-03-27)

#3655

This is needed!

(Cape Town, 2019-03-27)

#3656

It is necessary for the copyright to be extended for a lifetime plus 70 years

(Tembisa , 2019-03-27)

#3657

Content authors need protection in a world dominated by internet giants putting pressure on governments.

(Cape Town, 2019-03-27)

#3661

This will destroy the creative community. We will be harshly judged by future generations because we are exploiting our artists.

(Jogannesburg, 2019-03-27)

#3662

I am a writer and composer who will suffer great loss of my intellectual property in future if this bill is passed

(Johannesburg , 2019-03-27)

#3673

The sheer size of this petition (and growing), indicates just how many artists and creatives are concerned about the Bill. There needs to be a much wider round of well-publicised and easily accessible workshops to explain progress thus far and help people understand the mechanics of the Bill, and exactly how it will affect artists and service providers. Crucially, these workshops must not be government talking down to artists and ticking attendance boxes, they must take on board critical inputs, with a view to making necessary revisions that will preference artist rights over rights of third parties. Artists and arts organisations should be examining the proposed Bill and deploying the services of lawyers to articulate the shortcomings and to contest the process.

(Cape Town, 2019-03-27)

#3675

I'm a creator and the value gap is detrimental to my craft.

(Cape Town, 2019-03-27)

#3680

I'm signing because I'm an artist living in South Africa.

(Johannesburg , 2019-03-27)

#3683

As black South African artists of various forms we appeal to your sense of responsibility fairness humanity and as leader of a marginalized nation to do the right things by not signing our rights to ownership of our original works for a song, as was the case for black artists in the old racist regime. We lacked both the knowledge and resources to protect or prevent blatant theft of our heritage. This time we stand united against any attempts by anyone to screw us once more. We speak with one voice so listen very clearly, we mean business

(Toronto, 2019-03-27)

#3686

We all need to raise an informed voice and not leave our future in the hands of those whose welfare is not dependent on the creative economy.

(Johannesburg, 2019-03-27)

#3690

I have worked in the publishing industry for almost forty years and have many friends who depend on income from creative work for their livelihood.

(Capt Town, 2019-03-27)

#3692

I'm signing because I feel strongly about copy rights and other intellectual property terms.

(East London, 2019-03-27)

#3697

I’m signing because as a passionate lover of the arts, particularly jazz, I have observed firsthand the pain suffered by our artists who are shortchanged by greedy record labels, managers, festival organizers, and the Arts Department itself.

(Durban , 2019-03-27)

#3698

Signing because I'm an artist and I support artists

(Bruxelles, 2019-03-27)

#3700

I'm a creative

(Cape Town , 2019-03-27)

#3707

SOUTH AFRICANS ARE TREATED LIKE FULL-BLOWN PAWNS & NOBODY IS HELPING THE SA TAXPAYER, THE TAXPAYERS ARE ALL ROBBED DAILY & THEN ARTISTS AND MUSICIANS ETC ARE ALSO BEING ABUSED & HERE THIS PRESIDENT & FRIENDS ARE HAPPY TO TAKE THAT WHICH BELONGS TO OTHERS....

(Cape Town, 2019-03-27)

#3708

I am a creative !

(Johannesburg , 2019-03-27)

#3710

I feel strongly about this matter.

(George, 2019-03-28)

#3714

I'm signing because this is about my livelihood.

(George, 2019-03-28)

#3719

I'm signing because protecting intellectual property encourages people to create intellectual property - and the creation of such is one of the key drivers in a country where small business and entrepreneurship are so fundamental to the growth of the economy and the realisation of a vibrant, expressive, progressive South Africa.

(Cape Town, 2019-03-28)

#3741

I am a creative author, poet, and academic. I feel violated for my creativity and my IP. I feel this government has finally stripped us of all dignity, respect and rights. This should never happen in a democracy where lives were sacrificed for the masses. Why can't they just get a CC license. And allow the creatives to make a free choice of sharing IP.

(DURBAN, 2019-03-28)

#3742

Ridiculous enfringement on (already struggling) creative IP

(Jhb, 2019-03-28)

#3743

This damages South Africa the same way that Article 13 would harm the EU. We can't go backwards

(Pretoria, 2019-03-28)

#3744

I'm signing because this bill should be fair to all parties involved and not fair to certain individuals or entities only.

(Sandton, 2019-03-28)

#3747

I am a record label owner and musician and our rights should be protected as creators and not exploited without being compensated accordingly since I own the intellectual property to my artistic works.

(Cape Town, 2019-03-28)

#3754

Creativity is an individual talent that should be respected and cherished. There is no such thing as collective creativity. This bill steals from the individual. It is a disgrace. Shame on the ANC and its Marxist disrespect for individual rights.

(Johannesburg , 2019-03-28)

#3759

Who does this benefit? That’s the real question........

(Johannesburg, 2019-03-28)

#3761

I'm all about change #RiseSARise

(Mogale Stad, 2019-03-28)

#3765

I'm an author. This will impact my future.

(Cape Town, 2019-03-28)

#3768

I rely on my income from copyrighted books to support my family. I pay taxes on my income. Allowing others to use or profit from my books without fair compensation is nothing short of theft, and will end the publishing industry in South Africa, causing job losses and making SA students and readers ever more reliant on imported, expensive books.

(Johannesburg, 2019-03-28)

#3770

I am a creator and this will affect me and fellow collaborators and future collaborators.

(Cape Town, 2019-03-28)

#3772

I'm signing because I'm a content creator and I want my work to be protected.

(Cape Town, 2019-03-28)

#3774

the amendments do not protect the rights of content creators namely, Authors, Scriptwriters, Music Composers, Fine artists, Designers, Songwriters, essentially anyone who has created an idea and Mr. President, this impacts our Heritage, Culture and the ultimate identity of our country. The South African creative Industry is at stake.

All authors of any kind must be offered adequate protection on their IP and all Copyrights.

(PRETORIA, 2019-03-28)

#3786

Intellectual property should be protected in the same way that all other work product is protected.

(Benoni , 2019-03-28)

#3791

I'm a composer, producer, publisher & label owner who will be negatively impacted by the Bill as it currently stands. Redrafting the Bill with our concerns being met & catered for will be highly appreciated, it will also be a show of respect & care to us as stakeholders & contributors to the economy through our that creativity which is also our livelihood. Redrafting the Bill with our inputs of concern will be morally right & constitutional by law.

(Pretoria, 2019-03-28)

#3794

I write textbooks for a living. This will beggar me and my family.

(Cape Town, 2019-03-28)

#3795

I believe the legislation will dis-incentivize cultural production and make the country culturally poorer.

(Port Elizabeth, 2019-03-28)

#3800

I'm signing because this bill is going to undermine publishing even further and will not benefit writers either. Which will in the long run further erode our society.

(Cape Town, 2019-03-28)
