STOP THE PROPOSED 4/5 STOREY COMMERCIAL DEVELOPMENT ON BETTY ST AND DOONAN RD NEDLANDS

Comments

#1

This development has been progressed with no community consultation and will severely effect the neighborhood and our property values.

Kirsten van der Walt (Perth, 2020-06-23)

#2

It is unacceptable the way that the public have not been informed of this development. No communication period and we live 100 metres away from the proposed development sign! We had to find out from neighbours!

I am very concerned at the extra traffic congestion with the existing aged home, nursing center, parks, etc in the area. Plus the small streets on Doonan and Betty.

I am also concerned what effect this will have on our family property!

I also don't understand how the zoning change can happen!

Julie Holmes (Dalkeith, 2020-06-23)

#4

The proposed develoment in the heart of a R12.5 zoned area makes no sense. There has been zero consultation with local resident by Council or by the proponents.

Dale Harris (Nedlands, 2020-06-23)

#5

The scale of this project is completely out of line with the residential nature of the area. There was no community consultation on the project.

Rosalind Smith (Nedlands, 2020-06-23)

#8

The impact of this development goes well beyond its size and immediate physical impact on our neighbourhood. There has not been any direct community engagement with residents about THIS project by the developer, until a development application was lodged. It is not "ageing in place", it is a high care, high volume quasi-hospital in the middle of a quiet residential area, with potential scope to extend further down both streets.

Kylie Passage (Nedlands, 2020-06-23)

#9

This is totally the wrong place for something of this scale. Plenty of re-zoned land in Nedlands already for higher density, put it there or near the hospitals. Do not need to change residential blocks here. A shonky opaque deal.

Brett Walker (NEDLANDS, 2020-06-23)

#12

We are directly affected as the proposed development will be next door. There has been NO consultation by Council or Oryx in connection with the development. We have lived in the Nedlands area for 58 years and this would have to be the greatest kick in the backside yet. Completely disgusted and dissolusioned by Council.

Brian & Robin Burton (NEDLANDS, 2020-06-23)

#15

The process of the council is all wrong and this is a completely unsuitable development for this area

Anthony Holmes (Perth, 2020-06-23)

#16

I am absolutely flabbergasted to discover for the first time on Friday 19 June the first letter ever received from ORYX! telling about this development that is to be built directly across our house!

Arlette Marie Rajalingam-Eifler (Perth, 2020-06-23)

#19

I live in Nedlands and I don’t want a development like this in a family residential suburb

Alexis Sherman (Perth, 2020-06-23)

#21

I do not agree with the proposed oversized commercial enterprise in a residential area.

John Sanders (Nedlands , 2020-06-23)

#25

- it is completely out of scale with the street
- there will be a large and very negative impact on the traffic in our street

Jane Leaversuch (Perth, 2020-06-23)

#27

I am signing this petition because I object to this over sized commercial development that is inappropriately located in Nedlands

John McGuire (Perth, 2020-06-23)

#30

Doonan Rd and Betty St are quiet, narrow, residential streets zoned R10 - R12.5.
The proposed development will cause significant disruption to local streets in terms of aesthetic, amenity, traffic, light pollution and character. The size and scale of the development render it wholly inappropriate for a quiet residential area zoned R10-R12.5.
This is development by stealth.
I am appalled and dismayed that the Council could allow this to happen.

Rebecca Faugno (Nedlands, 2020-06-23)

#31

The proposed development, being a multi storey 24 hour high care facility, is totally out of character for the narrow small R12.5 residential quiet street location deep into Nedlands. I am appalled that the City of Nedlands and Councillors could allow this to occur in this area. There needs to be some real accountability in this regard from our administration and members.

Mario Faugno (Nedlands , 2020-06-23)

#32

I’m signing this because I believe there is encroachment into residential areas.

Jenny Bay (Subiaco , 2020-06-23)

#34

5 storey aged care facilities have place in quiet suburbia. Council needs to stop overdeveloping residential suburbs or what is special about this little part of the world will be permanently destroyed

Vanessa Malla (Perth, 2020-06-23)

#36

It’s just not right

Chantel Baker (Claremont , 2020-06-23)

#37

The area isn’t fit for purpose and it will make our streets too busy and dangerous.

Shane Lehmann (Nedlands, 2020-06-23)

#39

We live on Doonan Rd, our daughter was born here and has now reached the age where she can ride or walk to the park at the bottom of our road - Masons Gardens - without us having to worry about extra traffic. I feel there is ample aged care facilities in our area, St Louis is 5 minutes up the road, the new Queenslea aged care on Graylands Rd is again 5 minutes away.
We really do feel that having such a busy hub in a quiet neighbourhood street can only be detrimental to our neighbourhood as well as nearby property values.
If we start rezoning every street and block we are going to eventually lose the character and lifestyle of our community in Nedlands.

Caroline Lehmann (Nedlands , 2020-06-23)

#42

signing for my local friend

Suzie Middleton (PERTH, 2020-06-24)

#44

Totally inappropriate considering the immediate residential area.

Katie Bourke (Nedlands, 2020-06-24)

#45

*No public consultation regarding scale of the development nor how they propose to deal with the significant increase in traffic numbers not to mention how they intend to service the development. Also is the Proposed Development intending to trade 24/7?

Jason Potalivo (Dalkeith, 2020-06-24)

#49

I am worried about how this will affect the resale value of my property, the traffic issue, and the visual aspect. These are only a few of the issues.

Dianne Axworthy (Nedlands, 2020-06-24)

#50

A development of this kind (essentially a hospital with 90 long term inpatients) and scale is entirely inappropriate for a quiet residential community

Jurgen Passage (Nedlands, 2020-06-24)

#51

It will be a disaster for the local area!!

Melinda Hayes (Perth, 2020-06-24)

#55

This is a Commercial Facility abutting family homes and the rezoning was by stealth.

Lynnette Edwards (Perth, 2020-06-24)

#60

This is a disgrace!
Everyone I have spoken to is outraged with this proposal.
Surely, this will not go ahead!!

Simon Growden (NEDLANDS , 2020-06-24)

#61

This is a shocking development - the council needs to listen to the people and NOT their pockets.

Sally Hayes (Perth, 2020-06-24)

#63

This type of development should be built in the QEII area, not Betty Street and Doonan Road.

Julian Atkinson (NEDLANDS, 2020-06-24)

#66

The process has been underhanded and dishonest
The proposed commercial development is of completely inappropriate scale

Rudolf Boeddinghaus (Nedlands , 2020-06-25)

#68

This is a massive 24/7 commercial operation that has no place in a quiet residential street. If this can occur on Betty Street and Doonan Road, then we can presume that no area within the City of Nedlands is off-limits for future developments of this scale. As ratepayers who will be directly impacted if this development proceeds, we would like to understand how the proposal was able to progress to this stage with absolutely zero community consultation from either the developer or the Council?

Kirsten McGuire (Nedlands, 2020-06-25)

#69

My house is close to this proposed developement. I think the scale of the building is ridiculous for a small suburban street. Also parking and traffic issues will directly affect me, my family and our visitors.

Nicole Hemsley (Perth, 2020-06-25)

#70

Transparency and accountability of our council and processes.

Charlotte Solomon (Nedlands, 2020-06-25)

#71

If it can happen in that small quiet in Doonan It can happen anywhere. Sneaky council should be exposed, smells very fishy to me!

Brett Burden (Perth, 2020-06-25)

#79

I believe this sort of development should be within the hospital or commercial precincts. I am concerned what this means for the future of our suburb if the council is considering rezoning prime residential areas to what will effectively be commercial.

Lisa Weaver (Perth, 2020-06-25)

#83

We bought in Nedlands because of the large family size blocks with no subdivision.

Steve O’Dea (Nedlands, 2020-06-25)

#84

This is a rediculous proposal that will ruin the area

Joshua ODea (Perth, 2020-06-25)

#86

Council needs to consult with locals

Kim Stewart (Nedlands , 2020-06-25)

#88

No way should this be built there!!

Shannon Kissane (Claremont, 2020-06-25)

#89

The whole reason I moved to Nedlands is being lost. The big blocks the beautiful tree Scape. It is all going to go.

Nardia Smith (Perth, 2020-06-26)

#90

As a cyclist using these roads to commute, and as a RESIDENT of Nedlands, I’m shocked that a hospital is being built in a suburban street.
I will be stridently opposing this and the entire council at the next elections.

Michael Young (Swanbourne , 2020-06-26)

#91

I live nearby and it is definitely not the right place for a big development with inevitable traffic problems

Nicola Baillie (Perth, 2020-06-26)

#93

I am opposed to the height and size of the proposed 5 level building. I am not opposed to aged care and the two level concept building and refurbishment of the once heritage listed lodge circulated in 2016 would have been far more appropriate.

Susan Stevens (Nedlands, 2020-06-26)

#94

Not in favour of more traffic on Doonan road.

Anthony Orchard (Nedlands, 2020-06-26)

#101

This directly affects my neighbourhood

Trina Peters (Nedlands , 2020-06-28)

#102

The scale and nature of this development is not suited to this location and should not proceed. The extreme lack of community consultation and secrecy that has been undertaken by the Council to date on this development is disgraceful.

Jane Kirkby (Nedlands, 2020-06-28)

#103

A five storey retirement village is more like hospital development, having this in a residential area is ludicrous

Penelope Kapinkoff (Dalkeith, 2020-06-29)

#106

I support this submission

Gary Roberts (Dalkeith , 2020-06-30)

#107

Increased traffic and shortage of parking in the area.

Norm Roberts (Nedlands, 2020-07-01)

#108

This proposed development is out of proportion to the residential area around Doonan Road and Betty Street and has progressed without any consultation with those in this area.

Scott Phung (Nedlands, 2020-07-01)

#109

This is an absurd project for a residential site

Matthew Sheminant (Nedlands, 2020-07-02)

#110

I live directly next to the proposed development of which I have never had any consutlation with any member of the council regarding zoning changes or design changes. The developer has made no effort to discuss the development with me. I strongly object to living next to a 24/7 operating high end hospital in a small residential area of Nedlands. Move this to a medical precient
Make it a Retirement Village but
THIS IS NOT THE PLACE FOR A HOSPITAL OR MEDICAL HUB

TONIA MCNEILLY (PERTH, 2020-07-04)

#111

I object to a new care facility being built in a very quiet residential area. The scale of the development is not in keeping with residential streetscape.
The lack of parking. The increase in traffic and the 24 hour nature of the business.
The number of new age care facilities in the area creates concern as to the future demand for this facility.

Kate Kenney (Perth, 2020-07-04)

#112

I am signing because thIs DA is completely inappropriate for a residential location.

Kath Leys (Perth, 2020-07-04)

#113

This proposal is out of character for the neighbourhood (zoned residential), and was proposed with no consultation with the local community.

Andrew (Nedlands, 2020-07-04)

#114

No consultation; traffic & parking issues; overlooking; noise control; high density; safety issues

Patricia (Nedlands, 2020-07-04)

#115

I object to the scale of this development in a quiet residential street. The lack of recent consultation. The 24 hour nature of this huge development with increased traffic and lack of parking for visitors and staff.

Stephen Kenney (Perth, 2020-07-04)

#117

The development is too bulky
Too high density
Too busy
For a garden suburb

Joanne Tan (Dalkeith , 2020-07-05)

#120

We lived at 5 Betty St years ago, so I know that area cannot safely be used for any extra form of concentrated, high use facility. The hub of the Child Care Centre, Park, bus route and present aged care Facility has already put those who use these facilities and locals in peril going near there. ROAD TRAUMA waiting to happen.
COUNCIL DUTY OF CARE???

Lynne Leys (Claremont , 2020-07-06)

#121

I am a medical consultant and I see the needs that facilities such as this require. This high density and high level care facility is not suitable for either patients, their families or local residents. The through traffic required to provide 24/7 high level care with changing nursing shifts, visitors and ambulances is not conducive or considerate of the surrounding residential neighbourhood. Facilities such as this are much needed but need to be correctly located in the community.

Laura Fender (Dalkeith, 2020-07-06)

#123

Unacceptable planning process with nil community consultation. The impact of the facility including the services provided within it have not been explored, planned nor reported on. Why does the council and the facility planner wish to keep the community in the dark this is concerning on many levels. This raises far more questions than answers that have been given.

Linda Hart (NEDLANDS, 2020-07-07)

#124

This development will have a substantial negative impact on the local community:
24 hour noise at significant levels
Road access inadequate and inappropriate for the size of the building
Parking inadequate
Years of uncertainty for the community -so unable to sell their property

Roger Hart (Perth, 2020-07-07)

#125

I am extremely concerned about the scale of the proposed complex and nature of business activities, and the detrimental affect they will have on the community of my street and surrounding streets, including use of the local park by my children.

Philippa Tilbrook (Nedlands, 2020-07-09)

#126

My children ride their bikes in this area and play at Masons Gardens regularly. I do not agree with a commercial business operating in a quiet, residential area with the increase in traffic and congestion it will inevitably bring. Strongly opposed.

Lauren Meredith (Nedlands, 2020-07-09)

#132

The proposed building is directly in line of sight from my house and, given the proposed bulk of the structure, will be an overwhelming blot on the landscape and impose on the privacy of my property. I am also concerned that the impact of this commercial development, in a quiet residential neighborhood, will have a detrimental affect on our quality of life.

Joe Oxley (Dalkeith, 2020-07-13)
