I am signing because I am a member of the Anglican church and feel that the ground opposite should not be utilized to breed an informal settlement

Kirk Armstrong (Durbanville , 2022-07-15)

#1612

I was attacked recently for my drink

Brandon Kitching (Cape Town, 2022-07-15)

Security.
Hygiene.
Morals.
Total mess where they stay and language

Christa Maritz (Cape Town, 2022-07-15)

#1617

The situation is not acceptable and should be stopped now. I agree with all as said in the petition

Louise WINTERBACH (Durbanville, 2022-07-15)

#1624

We can not allow this to happen in our village

Callie Kuger (Durbanville, 2022-07-15)

#1628

I have witnessed the steady growth of this tent town and I am appalled that no one is doing anything to relocate these people to a lovable space with water and ablutions.

Monica Ross (Durbanville, 2022-07-15)

#1633

Hygienic circumstances for the tented community e.g. no ablution facilities. This will have an effect on the businesses close by and also residents in adjacent areas. There is littering that causes health issues and can develop into a public health issue because of viral or bacterial infections arising from this.

Susann Breytenbach (Cape Town, 2022-07-15)

#1640

A solution needs to be found for this problem. I acknowledge the plight of the homeless, but the pitching of tents on municipal property is not the answer to this problem, and neither the supply of tents by communiry members of Dville

Yvette Fourie (Durbanville, 2022-07-15)

As a resident of this town I am concerned about our safety and security within the town and surrounding suburbs. We have a right as rate payers to see that our streets are kept clean and free from vagrant inhabitants. Our children want to enjoy this town for years to come as we have been able to. We need to act now to make a difference.

I am a long time property owner in Durbanville. I have raised the issue of mismanagement of the homeless congregating in Durbanville with the Councillor Theresa Uys years ago in a public meeting. Her response was to send me a threatening letter from her lawyers and have me removed from the Ward Committee. I was right to be concerned, our Durbanville CBD has turned into a dangerous cesspool.

Mrs G Herbig (Cape Town , 2022-07-15)

#1645

It is not a healthy or save situation for someone to be living like this.

Margery von Backström (Durbanville, 2022-07-15)

#1646

My son was attacked on Fri night 15 July, by a group of these tent people, who sprayed him in the face with pepper spray. He refused to hand over his energy drink to them.

Wade Kitching (Durbanville , 2022-07-15)

#1647

I am concerned about the miriad of risks involved in this issue, and having just undertaken a road trip to Mpumelanga, I am concerned about what has happened in other provinces, with absolute decay of smaller towns and infrastructure

Liesel Krige (Cape Town, 2022-07-15)

#1649

It is against the law and we must protact our city not to become part of the 3rd world

Willem Smit (Durbanville, 2022-07-15)

#1651

We need to relocate these people, otherwise its too late

Eigene Snyman (Durbanville, 2022-07-15)

I’ve lived in Durbanville since 2009 & I’m concerned with the rapid increase of homelessness & crime in the area.

Chantel Micallef (Cape Town , 2022-07-16)

I fully agree with Richard’s sentiments

Trixi Gassner (Cape Town, 2022-07-16)

Augusta Boeyens (Cape Town, 2022-07-16)

I am concerned about the health issues, as well as the safety aspects as there is already a spike in crime in our area

Marie vd Merwe (Durbanville Cape Town, 2022-07-16)

#1676

I would like to see this matter taken care of, and these people re-homed.

Lenetia Mundie (Cape Town, 2022-07-16)

#1679

This is unacceptable this is within the centre of durbanville with a sore eye and the fact that there so many little kids in that area its unsafe.

Heloïse Taljaard (Durbanville , 2022-07-16)

#1681

Educator at the Primary School. This is a health and safety risk to our pupils.

Francois Roux (Durbanville, 2022-07-16)

#1682

I am frustrated that this is allowed to happen and nothing is done about it.

Pieter Koen (Durbanville, 2022-07-16)

#1683

Those people need better access to toilets and other facilities and to also protect our areas value.

Christopher Olivier (Durbanville, 2022-07-16)

#1685

Its a problem that needs to be stopped

Matthew Russell (Cape town, 2022-07-16)

#1689

There is a definitive move to occupy state owned or Municipal land and property in accordance with the court orders protection and seeming in a co ordinated manner as very little private land is occupied in the sense that the occupation is protected by state. it begs the question about lawlessness propagation inabated

H-J Vosloo (Cape Town, 2022-07-16)

#1690

These people can be relocated to a safet space and have the public space restored.

Christo Van Schalkwyk (Durbanville, 2022-07-16)

#1696

I'm signing because I have rights as a ratepayer to request that the unsightly and unhygienic tent cities be removed.

Bronwynne Schnider (Durbanville, Cape Town , 2022-07-16)

#1698

I am unhappy with the people asking the children for food when school close and they walk home or to the car.

Catherina Mostert (Durbanville, 2022-07-16)

#1702

Safety of our children

Doep Muller (Durbanville, 2022-07-16)

#1705

I am greatly concerned that these tents (which were allowed to set up during the Covid pandemic) have not been removed and the number of tents is growing rapidly. If something is not done our beautiful village will become another informal settlement. We cannot allow squatters to ruin areas as there is no infrastructure for them and the authorities are allowing this to happen. I pay high rates and taxes to maintain certain living standards and as such should not have to be subjected to the indifference of the authorities in this matter. Action must be taken to remove and relocate these people.

Lisa Grace (Durbanville Cape Town , 2022-07-16)

#1708

No sanitary facilities
Health risk to community

Gerda Du Plessis (Durbanville , 2022-07-16)

#1709

I'm signing because I belong to the neighborhood watch and I see day in and day out how these people are seeing stuff out if people's yards or vandalizing properties and how the drains are been used by them to hide things and how the parks for our kids are been taken over with drugs users.

Gene Langmann (Bellville , 2022-07-16)

#1713

HEALTH HAZARD!!!
We want our beautiful town, Durbanville, back. Will you please remove all the tents on the piece of grond in Durbanville next to the small church, close to the police station and just opposite the school. It is disgusting!!

Annelize Louw (Durbanville, 2022-07-16)

#1715

I live in close proximity, and I have seen this grow exponentially. It IS a major health risk. I have had to make my children look away due to unacceptable public behaviour. Crime is rising and no one can deny the origen of the crime leads to this informal settlement on the rise. It CAN NOT Stand and I fully support the request to remove it ASAP.

Delise Saunderson (Durbanville , 2022-07-16)

#1719

I am signing this petition because I am worried about crime and my safety as a Durbanville resident. There are no water and sanitation where these tent dweller stay and they are polluting the environment, which poses a health risk and outbreak of diseases.

Rosa Bredekamp (Durbanville, 2022-07-16)

#1720

We turning Durbanville in to 3rd wold town

Johan Ludik (Durbanville , 2022-07-16)

#1725

I live in Church street Durbanville, the noice and fighting the drug use and lack of safety is a huge problem.

Aletta Myburgh (Cape Town, 2022-07-16)

#1726

This development is neither safe nor hygienic!

Sannette Koopman (Cape Town, 2022-07-16)

#1730

To remove the tent town

Nadine Sykes (Cape Town, 2022-07-16)

#1734

I fear for my safety in the area. The amount of needles lying around in the area is disturbing.

Chenel Kruger (Durbanville, 2022-07-16)

#1736

I am signing because the tent squatters are an enormous health Hazzard in the middle of Durbanville

Annegret Kitshoff (Bellville, 2022-07-16)

#1739

It is unacceptable that people stay in tents....walked nakedly..open fires....and selling drugs in a neighbourhood. Without water and sanitary. It us disgusting

Louise Marais (Durbanville, 2022-07-16)

#1740

The conditions these people are staying in can easily become a huge health risk, remember Wuan? This cannot be tolerated and action must be taken to relocate them as soon as possible. This will also send out a strong message. More than two years ago I sent the City of Cape Town my input on what could be done to solve the issue with all homeless people in our greater city

Christiaan van Rhyn (Cape Town, 2022-07-16)

#1742

Its a health hazzard.

Marie Combrinck (Malmesbury, 2022-07-16)

#1744

I do not believe that living in these conditions is humane. Finding a solution for people who have fallen on hard times is important.

Margaret Winsor (Kenridge, 2022-07-16)

#1746

It is unacceptable to have squatters right opposite a junior school where young children are exposed to adults doing their ablution in th public eye, outside the church gate and outside the police station. There are no ablution facilities, no litter collection and no running water. It is an eyesore, a fire hazard, and a possible crime/drug spot. Unacceptable. Our town needs protection and preservation.

MK Mrs Neethling (Durbanville , 2022-07-16)

#1748

We have to stop this before it gets out of control and then nothing can be done about it. It a health hazard and also not safe. Move these people!!!]

Eileen Webber (Cape Town , 2022-07-16)

#1750

Durbanville is an upmarket area and we pay upmarket rates. By refusing to keep law and order, local government is devaluating our area and letting us all know that we can do whatever we want, just as these illegal squatters are allowed to do (squat, steal, loiter, litter, damage property, defecate in public and on the graves, harass and threaten people, throw rocks at cars) If the law does not apply to them then it cannot apply to us either. Local government is setting a very dangerous precedent. This has been a growing problem for years and the community is furious from the lack of support or law. If you fail to address this issue then we will ensure you lose Durbanville in the next elections.

Gavin Sher (Cape Town, 2022-07-16)

#1753

This cannot continue, it simply is unsafe for everyone involved. Wherever these tent towns pop up the fact remains, proper planning and provision needs to be made to address the issue. Simply “letting it go” is in no ones best interest.

Matthew Shambler (Bellville , 2022-07-16)

#1760

I do not believe the tent town in front of the Anglican Church is an adequate place for an informal settlement. There are no toilets or running water

Danielle Aspinall (Durbanville , 2022-07-16)

#1761

Concerned resident and community member of Durbanville

Jan Scholtz (Cape Town, 2022-07-16)

#1763

The council have not done anything to remove or relocate them and the same with people living elsewhere on the street

Lukas Van Vuuren (Durbanville , 2022-07-16)

#1764

They must be removed. We need to maintain standards and not let our area become a slum

ROB STARKE (Durbanville, 2022-07-16)

#1768

I fully support the sentiments expressed in this petition and look forward to a speedy and urgent response by the relevant authorities to the concerns raised therein.

Heather Wepener (Bellville, 2022-07-16)

#1772

I also feel they should be moved to a more sustainable place.

Deborah Feyerabend (Durbanville , 2022-07-16)

#1776

You cannot have people from all over pitching tents where ever they want. Taking up public space at will is unacceptable and have higiene consequinces. Increase crime in the area

Fanie Kruger (Durbanville, 2022-07-16)

#1778

I concur with all of the above

Natalie Winterbach-Pridgeon (Durbanville, 2022-07-16)

#1779

It is unacceptable that anyone is allowed to set up accommodation anywhere they want without the necessary infrastructure and without contributing to infrastructure. Where is the authorities to remove them before it becomes a problem?

Marlene Slabbert (Ceres, 2022-07-16)

#1785

Durbanville was always a clean friendly and safe neighbourhood. When total lockdown due to covid happened pekple were given tents and gradually more tents were put up on an open area close to the police station. Mothers used to let their kids walk to Durbanville primary school. Now it is too filthy and they are scared. There is also health risks since the ablution facilities are the field or drains. Property owners who sell adjacent to this area battle to sell or get lower prices than what they purchased for. This sets a president and other parks in neighbourhoods could end up the same. Law enforcement isnt doing anything and there are charities who keep giving these people food and tents which keeps them there.

Walda Bok (Durbanville, 2022-07-16)

#1786

We do not want to see a Du Noon develop right under our noses

ROBIN BROERS (DURBANVILLE, 2022-07-16)

#1795

I’m a resident in the area, who drives past these tents daily. It’s an eyesore and a health and safety risk.

Cecile Jones (Durbanville , 2022-07-16)

#1796

It is unsightly and the beginning of the degradation of the village.
They must be moved elsewhere to a more appropriate site.

Alan Taylor (Capetown , 2022-07-16)

#1799

Done with the dirt lying around, break ins, looks terrible!! Is this what our beautiful town has come to?

Ingrid Bennett (Durbanville, 2022-07-16)
