There is no room for censorship in the conversation over millions of people’s lives

This type of censorship and cancelling of free speech and discourse is inexcusable from an institution of higher learning in a democratic Nation.

I'm deeply concerned by IU's censorship of Palestinian individuals like Prof. Sinno and Samia Halaby on campus here in Bloomington. This kind of suppression is deeply un-American and unjust.

Professor Sinno's suspension is a violation of my understanding as to what is at the core of a great university.

I’m signing because as a faculty member and alumni, I cannot stand idly by and watch a member of my higher Ed inatitition be silenced, suspended and prevented from supporting and teaching students because of his affiliation with PSC. There is no faculty of staff member who can reasonably say they came into this field believing they did not have freedom of thought, opinion and speech. Without it, higher education does not exist.

I'm Jewish, and I was involved with Hillel at IU as a service leader, shofar blower during High Holidays, and took Hillel's Jewish Cooking class. I wrote my undergrad honors thesis in sociology about perceptions of antisemitism at IU. I'm dismayed that Professor Sinno is apparently being punished after PSC invited Jewish Israeli-American dual citizen Miko Peled to speak. The chilling effect this may have on speech, activism, and academic freedom deeply upsets my values as a Jew, as an American, and as part of the IU Alumni community.

The actions taken recently by IU in regards to Professor Sinno as well as artist Samia Halaby are more than disappointing and maddening. There is a clear bias shown by IU admin and Pamela Whitten.

I am against the genocide of the Palestinian people. I’m anti-war, anti-genocide, anti-Zionist. I’m also anti-IU censoring professors.

Because this is procedurally and substantively unfair.

Ahmed Elbasyouny (Bloomington, 2024-02-06)

the genocide against the Palestinian people must end and anyone with a conscience would be supporting rather than punishing Palestinian faculty and students during this time.

Professor Sinno's speech and action in solidarity with Palestine is both just and must be defended as a red line that defines the rights of all academics on all political issues that defy those with power

Docherty's decision is unbelievably wrongheaded.

The entire matter is a disgrace and thus a stain on the IU community, publicly degrades IU, and demoralizes all who have aspired to make IU one of the great educational institutions in the world.

These acts are darkening clouds, threatening academic freedom. Not by one instance only. But by the deceptive, false language used , the unfounded claims, the use of "security " as a screen for denial of events and the excuse for mandating authoritative practices on a once well respected university . Moreover. These are the tactics employed by
fascists the world over in the process of taking control.

Beverly Stoeltje (Bloomington , 2024-03-22)

The administration doesn’t respect IU policies. I support democracy and my faculty. ✊

IU admin should be ashamed of themselves for such blatant disregard of civil liberties.
