This is also a problem with the lack of transportation, sometimes the fights would start when people were walking home because they simply couldn't wait for a taxi (that was if the taxi service was running). I know back then when I was also out drinking and partying, it would be normal to wait over an hour for a taxi. We have courtesy buses for some of the pubs and we are thankful for them but it can also make it a bit hard depending on hours they are running/capacity/living out of town/ect. We know there is only so much a small town can do but all these small things definitely contribute. If anything, they should have programs in place to attend before they chuck someone on a ban, let alone such a long ban! They aren't just missing out on "weekend benders", they miss out on important life events such as birthday parties and wakes. Something really needs to change and I hope that it comes soon.

Signing this because this it a liquor lience that the police and pubs of Goondiwindi have made between them selves as my so solicitor said u might as wipe your xxx on it it’s just a piece of paper. The caint ban from NSW as they have different laws than QLD. And for Been sentenced for 5 yrs than they change it to 15 yrs the people on the list already been to court and got 5 yrs caint be changed by a vote at a liquor liencing meeting as they call it the unless the go before the judge again they just caint charge the sentence. So been
Sentenced for 5 yrs is 5 yrs not 15 yrs. Mayb they should go to a liquor lience meeting in Toowoomba to see how it is run instead of running it like they want to which is worth nothing one solicitor said from Warwick QLD.

I am signing because my son was banned over 5 years ago is now a grown man married and a father of 2. I believe he is entitled as all are to go and enjoy a beer with his family friends and mates. As well a lot of industry awards are involved with licensed premises and my son is unable to attend even if he asks permission. He is currently a local involved with restocking the river. Plays cricket and supports events where work enables him too. In every way he has grown into a responsible adult but he is not able to have a beer or a meal out with his family celebrate a mates birthday or h its own at a licensed premises. Very very sad would say this is discrimination and an unnecessary evil we have created only in Goondiwindi as it stands.

This is a sure fire way of pushing our young people out of Goondiwindi where our essestial services are struggling with young local people already.
For a free and democratic nation, where the Mayor was not elected into power, this sure supports the youths notion Australia is a falsehood and authoritarian. Not worth fighting for!

I fully agree with the statement as I am in the same predicament. 5 years is too long let alone 15. I was 21 when banned now going on 27 the life ban is embarrassing as I have grown up a hell of a lot and I’m sure everyone else has too. Make the ban 1 year max!

I’m tired of being excluded from socialising as a 26 year old in this town because my partner is not welcome to ANY events, gatherings etc if there is a liquor licence. It’s becoming a joke in this town, where good young men and women who have grown up are still unable to sit and have a beer with their friends because of a 15 year ban they received at an age of 18-21. Most have grown up and moved on, had families, built successful lives but are still haunted by the bullshit that comes with a life ban. Those running the liquor accord should be ashamed of themselves, they advocate for mental health but don’t realise just what something like this does to a person. You get less for ******* murder. It’s time that this outdated rule book is banned

My son is also on the banning list he cannot attend wakes, birthday celebrations , going away celebrations, Races, BnS, anything on premises of pubs and licensed venues in town . Absolutely ridiculous he is a Goondiwindi born n bred to this present day works within our community at his full time job and also is on the Goondiwindi Fire Brigade doing the protection that is required for our community.
He was banned when he was 18 and this year will be turning 25 over pubs and police rulings on issues that are so now so old....
My son once again calls Goondiwindi home he supports the town 100 % and also will be in time will be raising his family here.
My question is how can police and pubs get away with this when there is no LEGISLATION about banning in the law constitution.
Apparently new decisions have come into place from Goondiwindi liquor accord that life ban has changed from 5 years to 15?? For new offenders and current banned people. So unfair.
This banning with the Goondiwindi Liquor Accord is absolutely ridiculous.
5 years is a long time not being aloud into licensed venues now that have put it to 15 what a joke.
15 years ... a very long time think about it...
We need this revised and squashed the whole thing.

I think it’s important the punishment fits the crime and a blanket approach is dated. Establishments apart of this accord need signage and noted punishments just as they do with liquor licensing rules on walls. If patrons understand what is at stake I think it could go a long way to curving unacceptable behaviour. In the same light repeat offenders and violence can not be tolerated. The individuals presence at an establishment is not the issue here, it is generally alcohol related. I think it’s important for people trying to curve that issue to be able to still attend pubs but simply serve an alcohol ban. There is a mental health element to this. If you went back to apologise for your behaviour in person you could risk a ban extension. The fact you can not have a meal in these establishments in a country town where there is no other eating out options does forcibly isolate individuals from socialising in every sense at a venue. One mistake and you can not dine out, I believe is harsh. Venues feel pressure to up hold these bans as if they don’t then police resources are less likely to offer them support when issues arise with patrons. This is why the list of establishments continues to grow. It’s a cherry to join and if your don’t uphold the rules you may not receive support. The police say it’s a pub initiative and the pubs say its a police initiative when it comes to handing out the bans. Repeat offenders should be given access to counseling or educational programs to help curve the root of the problem and form a better a relationship with alcohol if this is a true community approach. Evidence of a doctors appointments these sorts of things upon re entry. A tough conversion and a hard look at one’s self can do wonders. A life pub ban for a young individual fixes nothing for the individual that may need help.

No major cities do they have the same bands as Goondiwindi, it's ridiculous and should have been outdated many years ago. Unless property or people were injured 3 months for disorderly behaviour is acceptable not a life ban.

I’m signing because this is such a harsh punishment for, mainly young people, doing what young people do before they mature in to adulthood. The majority grow up to be model citizens, partners, parents, and secure employment in the workforce. Sure, there are probably a few that don’t deserve to be taken off, leave them off, but give the others a chance. The punishment in most cases, does not fit the crime.
