The staff in the Neo-natal unit work tirelessly and provide the most outstanding support for babies and parents. I’ve seen first hand how amazing they are and how challenging some days can be. The rule of them not being allowed refreshments on shift needs to change!

My son and daughter were treated by the amazing nurses/consultants/doctors in James cook for 5 weeks. They were absolutely incredible and I find it disgusting that with the job they do on such long shifts they aren’t able to have a refreshment between breaks. I have known times were the nurses would skip a break because they were just too busy to be able to fit one in.

The support the staff give on this unit is phenomenal. They need to have refreshments at their station as sometimes break times are short and late in the day. They need to have access to drinks at all times

SCBUs are necessary for prem & other vulnerable babies. They are wonderful with loving & hard working nurses. My eldest grandson was cared for in one after a very prem birth. He is now nearly 6' tall, 21 in Dec & at university.

I worked in NICU as a Midwifery Sister many years ago.
The staff worked really hard and were allowed to have a drink in between breaks as sometimes we didn’t make our official break. Who on earth would complain? Shocking!

It is unfair to say that the staff can’t have refreshments except for specific parts of their long shifts. At times they work through due the critical care the babies need and even looking after parents in these short breaks. I appreciate that they should be kept at designated areas away from machinery and meds.

The doctors and nurses here are angels on earth and the love and compassion and care they give to sick babies but also their families is second to none. It’s basic human rights to be allowed a refreshment. Absolutely ludicrous this is even a rule.

I believe the staff should be able to access refreshments during shifts. They care so much for the babies and the families they work with and go through every emotion with the parents. A drinks station should be available for staff and parent access.

2 of my children ended up on the neonatal ward and the staff are super hero’s! The care they gave my kids was nothing short of amazing and Il be forever grateful! These staff should be allowed refreshments the job they have is very demanding, let them have this small comfort while they wood this important job.

I see no reason why nurses cannot have a hot drink. If there was a health and safety reason I would agree but as parents are allowed hot drinks this is not the case. This is a silly rule and nurses work very hard and deserve a hot cup of tea.

They NCIU staff should be able to have refreshments. The rooms are very hot. I struggled not to have a drink and wasn't there aslkng as the nurses. They need to be 100% hydrated to ensure the best care possible for the babies.

My boy spent 5 weeks with the amazing staff in the nicu each and every single member of staff are amazing the babies are never left alone the sat are always there it's unfair that they can't get a drink there on there feet all day when a machine goes off there right there first saving out babies refreshments never hurt anyone

Any staff working intensive care should be allowed regular refreshments. They take care of the most sick and vulnerable patients and if they are dehydrated or have drops in blood sugar this could impact patient care negatively
