Stop poluting uMngeni's water with human excrement.

The York road sewerage "dam" in Howick, KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa is NOT lined and only a matter of meters away from a natural river. This means that the sewerage is seeping into underground water and the river.

There are channels that were cut years ago to divert the overflow of sewerage into the river. 

There is a storm drain aimed at this holding "dam" which ensures that after mild to heavy rains, the sewerage will overflow into the river.

There is no pump to pump sewerage out of this very poorly fenced off "dam" to move the sewerage away from a water source that feeds much wildlife and further down the river is drinking water for humans. 

The fencing in inadequate and has no service entry point, meaning that no maintenance can be done without removing a portion of the fence.

This atrocity and health hazard is a mere meters away residential homes.

The intentional pollution of natural resources, contamination of drinking water and intentional spread of diseases and potential loss of life is a criminal offense. 

The community of uMngeni calls on uMgungundlovu District Municipality to correct this criminal activity as a matter of urgency.
