#251 Fair is Fair

In 1998 Andrew Wurst, a 14 year old, shot and killed 48 year old John Gillette at an 8th grade dinner dance. He is serving 30 to 60 years. White boy shots white man. White boy goes to jail. This boy needs the same punishment. Show Erie youth that the color of your skin will not grant you protection from the law. You commit the crime and you go to jail. What was good enough for Andrew is good enough for this crime.

This murderer should have a life in prison because he'll never be any good. A friend of ours was his 6th grade teacher and had numerous problems with him. She would send him to the Principal & have nothing done, even after he brought drugs to school. The mother tried to have the teacher fired, saying she was racist. Really?!!! And, where was the father? In jail? People should start taking responsibility for their actions. Parents should be responsible for their children.

This kid won't be robbed of his life. He gave it away when he decided to go out that day with the intention of killing someone and actually doing it. Try as an adult. Too bad, there is no death penalty.

To send the message that such actions are not acceptable in a civilized society. You can't excuse this type of violence under any circumstances, regardless of age or environment. The accused has shown a complete disrespect for authority and human life. Has he yet co-operated and told the police where he got the gun?

I don't believe a crime like this should be forgotten after serving 7 years. He took a life.

It is not fair that this 14 year old knew exactly what he was doing and then use his age to try and manipulate the system!

People (even minors) need to be held accountable for their actions. I'm getting really tired of hearing the "it's not my fault" excuse.

I'm sick and tired of the knee-jerk reaction in our society to want to mitigate the wrongdoer and palliate his wrongdoing. Concern over the rights of the criminal and not the victims of the criminal's acts infuriates me.

I have children and empathy to anyone who has to bury a child as a result of senseless violence. We need to make people realize this cannot be tolerated.

I feel he should be tried as an adult and maybe even give. The death penalty for this senseless MURDER. It's not about race it's a bout someone getting murdered and justice being served

We have to start holding these young thugs accountable for their actions!! At age 14 you should know right from wrong. Very sad day for the Erie community, things have got to change!!

I want Justice for the Family of the Victim. I want more severe sentences for anyone possessing a firearm illegally do at least 5 years incarceration. Our Judges need to quit plea bargaining to put these people where they belong! As a retired Prison Guard I have seen to many of these people released only to come back several times.

The blatent disregard for another human being is unbelievable. At 14 years old you know what a gun can do. What he did needs to be punished. That's how it works.

There was a twelve yr old boy who shot and killed his father/step father (cant remember which) that was tried as an adult. If this twelve yr can be tried as an adult, then so can a fourteen yr old. This fourteen yr out went out that day to rob someone, why else carry a gun. Let me tell you what i witnessed abt 5 yrs ago when i working temp at the elm st walmart. There was a white boy with a bike,he was surrounded by 3 black boys who were trying to steal his bike. I got out of my car & yelled at these boys who scattered. The boy with thebike was abt 10 & 3 boys ages ranged frm 10 to 6. This happened around 9:45p & why were all 4 out without parents at that time of nite.

Life sentence without the possibility of parole. He knew exactly what he was doing. Anything else would not be justice for Jacob.

At the age of 7 years,we are expected to know right from wrong. The offender was twice the age of reason and made the decision to be an adult when he pulled the trigger. He must be tried as an adult!

Jacob deserves justice! Young kids need to know that if you want to commit an adult crime, you deserve adult consequences! No more "slaps on the wrist!"

I signed this petition because Jacob didn't deserve to die over a bike. Loosing his life wasn't fair and for the other kid who shot him he shouldn't get a second chance at anything but to sit and think about what he did. He deserves no freedom, hell it's bad enough that his family can still go see and talk to him and he can reply. What about Jacobs family, they can only go see him at the cemetery and in pictures with no chance of ever talking to him in person again. 14 or not that kid knew what he was doing that whole time and could have made the other decision to walk away but didn't. I really hope justice is served to the fullest in this case cause other wise kids are going to see that they can just about get away with anything and he will be out doing the same shit when he is older.

I don't care if the teenager is 14, a murder is a murder this is not an accident he intended to shoot it!

We are tired of kids thinking they can take lives and then walk away after they turn 21
