Why should the people of Cyprus pay for the mistakes of the electricity authority?

Another government cock up that the tax payers are expected to pay for. I thought a communist government was supposed to be for the people???? We should all take a stance and tell them to stick their inflated bills until something is done about reducing this extortion or the country comes to a complete stand still.

These charges are absolutely ridiculous and need to be investigated.

We, as customers of EAC, should not be liable to the increase in electricity costs following the tragic incident at the Moni Electricity Plant. Electricity prices are already high, resulting in customers not wanting to switch on essentials such as heating and lights. Without piped gas to houses, we are tied to electricity as a provider for heating in our homes - we need to be able to afford to run the heating.

I totally agree, electricity prices are always high in a monopoly situation.

Good governance and a sustainable energy policy are the current corner stones requirtement for the successful development of Cyprus, not turning a blind eye to the current and future needs by using the EAC as a revenue/tax/fines collection entity.

I totally agree that something must be done to control the price of electricity which is an essential commodity to all people living in Cyprus.

We also receive electricity bills in Hong Kong. The price we pay per kw/h in Cyprus is nearly TRIPLE what we pay in Hong Kong. Also a generous Hong Kong Government gives everyone a Euro 15 (equivalent) subsidy per month; even without this, our Cyprus bills are more than 2 1/2 times as high. Outrageous!

strongly agree with this. The bils have gone up exponentially and they dont seem to stop. We are working just to pay for the electricity.
