the way small businesses are suffering just now with recession this stupid task they are being made to do, is hardly going to help. what are the complaints about, really people have obviously not enough to do if they complain about silly things like this

This is a wonderful restaurant, with friendly, inclusive, welcoming staff. I find it sickening and sad that in a city supposedly as multicultural as Edinburgh that there attitudes are allowed to be tolerated. I hope this hate campaign stops soon and that the owners and staff can continue to contribute to the city.

I honestly cannot believe this woman is being entertained.
Edinburgh council, you should be ashamed!
STOP THE HATE.
Preposterous!

Very sad that Pomegranate are being forced to change their signage. It's just one of several restaurants on this street, many of whom have brighter lights and flashier fronts. So why is this restaurant being singled out?

Why not name and shame the complainant?

The council need to take a long hard look at this situation and the real reasons for the complaints. They need to clarify their position and if they uphold their present position then they need to maintain the same standards through the whole area.
Council=Useless

#134 Why is this not brough to public forum first???

2013-10-13 11:06

The council is inept. WHY, when one or two lone neighbors complain, are surveys not sent out to the entire area in advance of reacting, wasting time, and inhibiting anything good. This is not a raucous bar, or nightclub. In reverese, if it were truly a nuisance it would empower the council to act appropriately.

The council is too busy booking their Tram tickets.

sorry but there is very little information in regards to the nature and the motivationof the complaints. Racism isnot correct, but also labeling everything racist because someone involved is middle eastern is also wrong. Racists should no be able to hide behind the councils compaints system, as to people should not be able to pull out the racist card for a free pass.

i am not saying you are not correct, I am just saying this calling peopleracist without divulging the facts is also not the correct thing to do.

Pommegranite is one of the best places to eat in the whole of Edinburgh. It comes as no suprise to me that the residents of that area would complain. What a typically Hoity Toity reaction from the locals. They probably arent used to trade however, considering I'm pretty sure that SHOCKING italian place was a front for illegal shipments of pasta or something; I remember seeing maybe one table sat in there in my 27 years in the city. I wonder if this means the council will start doing things if we complain about the banks and tescos over running our city. Something tells me not. Support local business, end of.

I sat in on the license appeals one yr. There was a case about a kebab shop in newington. The neighbour complaining had forged many of the complaints and was caught out yet the board cancelled their late-night-license. This was in spite of the many letters of goodwill from the immediate neighbours and customers that the owners had compiled.
I hope you are not treated unfairly. However if this does go ahead, may I suggest you put your menus in the window and find some way to continue to attract ppl to your restaurant. I intend on bringing my family to you very soon for a birthday celebration.
What is happening about the other Asian, Mid East, Eastern European business that surround you? Are they being treated in the same way?

This is shocking to hear, as I've always thought on my weekly trips to Edinburgh that pomegranate had one fm the more appealing and well-kept,looking storefronts in the neighborhood.. And it's distressing to hear about the abuse poured out upon them by one particular neighbor who Gould perhaps get taken up herself on harassment charges.

Wonderful restaurant, the owners and staff deserve to continue to run the way they want without the small minded disrespect of others getting in the way. There is NOTHING offensive about this restaurant.

Having looked at the surrounding restaurants, it is obvious that the complainant has a personal agenda against Pomegranate as many of the neighbouring restaurants have much more prominent and obtrusive signage and lighting. The council should do their job properly.

It would be good to read the neighbour's logic. I can't imagine this is the doing of one household! Should the Evening News not be covering this too?

Nice place, good food signage is fine really petty complain about shouldn't the council be more involved in creating jobs than shutting down restaurants because someone is rascist?

I have looked at the image of the front of the restaurant and can not see any reason for there to be a problem with it. As a busines owner myself i know the importance of having information displayed to attract customers.
