Part of the Lydon family were lucky. They managed to get to England but never forgot their Irish roots

some of my ancestors were survivors of the genocide in Ireland. We will remember and throughout time it will not be forgotten

The term Famine seems inappropriate to me and I agree with the proposal to change future reference to the Famine to An Gorta Mór/The Great Hunger. I appreciate that the use of the term 'genocide' in this context is controversial and requires that certain criteria are met but it would appear to me that there is sufficient historical evidence to declare the deliberate actions and intentions of Trevelyan and his administration as constituting a genocidal act under the meaning of the Convention.

It's just good to look at the facts and know it was not a famine that just happened .. It was more sinister it was deliberate ethnic cleansing . But we must not blame the people in England today as there are plenty of lovely people that I have met in Britain and I also have a lot of family there .

Yes the British starved our people intentially, thats why i abhor our President going over to visit the Queen this week, some people have short memories.

A potato blight is not a famine. A famine was subsequently created by British disregard of Irish citizens. They stole our food at expense of our people.

From what I have read, the argument/debate from both sides, shows that the British Government of the day was out to Murder through starvation as many Irish ~ Catholic people as possible, with letting those that could, emigrate to a foreign land.
The workhouses set up to employ people were for the means of Britain, and any wage that was derived by the workers could not sustain any food, as there was no food to be purchased in Ireland. The amount of deaths and Policies of the British Government leaves no uncertain beliefs that it was Genocide. James Mackay

It is always right to print the truth of history so we can learn from our mistakes and don't repeat them. Please look into your hearts and see the truth. This is an important issue for the world to see and acknowledge. Thank you
