 I do not understand why the voters of this petition want an 8/1 start date.  There are so many reasons not to have this early date.  In fact, I would recommend a start date after labor day.  This is better all around.  Let's not have all of the silly breaks throughout the year and allow our kids and our families to have an enjoyable summer break!

It's two breaks. And The summer would have still been 9 weeks long. How is that not enough time to spend with family? Plus families will be with you during the breaks!
