🕯️ A Call to Action: In Loving Memory of Asonge "Mpehle" Phongolo (2007–2025) 🕯️

This month alone, Makhanda has mourned for too many. From a beloved football coach to a rising star, lives are being stolen in senseless acts of violence. We are heartbroken and angry—and we are saying, enough is enough.

One of our brightest talents, Asonge Phongolo, affectionately known as Mpehle, was only 18. A gifted soccer player who proudly wore jersey number 10 for Sophia Young Stars, Asonge symbolized hope for many young people.

In the early hours of Sunday morning, Asonge was brutally stabbed in a shocking act of violence. For days, we held our breath and hoped he would recover. But sadly, he passed away yesterday (29 April 2025) in the ICU.

While the investigation is ongoing and details remain sensitive, what we do know is this: our community cannot afford to stay silent.

We’ve just buried our beloved coach. Now we have lost our player. How many more must we lose?
