The Newmarket Stables have been in Durban all of my life. Many children have learned to ride there. Many are STILL USING it to learn to ride a horse. It's a wonderful activity and many horse owners will be at a loss to stable their horses. NOT FAIR!

It's sad I love the stables and my friends and family always support small businesses. We have to show support to the workers and the lovely horses who will have no where to go

The stables have been there all of my life.  I love horses and have enjoyed seeing the ones at Newmarket on a regular basis.

We live in a city and the stables and the horses are a lovely touch of "country" for us all to enjoy.

I know a number of children who are currently having horse riding classes.  How sad that the Municipality would rather host "GAMES" and TV SHOWS than cater for the needs of children and horses.

It's disgraceful.

Progress should build on history, not destroy it.

It is an outrage and a huge injustice that the Newmarket Stables will be torn down, they have existed for decades and should qualify as a piece of Durban history! Absolutely no consideration has been given by the municipality to the effect this will have on the future of the people and horses involved: someone should have sat down with the Stables and worked to incorporate the school & club in to the upcoming constructions!!! We are so upset!!!

It's so important for anyone with any sense of what's right to sign this petition and try to help prevent this needless tragedy from taking place.

Well.
I don't the stables to dissapear there, I may don't know it but i don't care. It's unrespectfull againt the equistrians in south africa. I'm doing this for a friend that lives there. In the whole world there are enough soccer places but nowhere are Stables. So thats why. I hope you guys let the stable.

kind regards Kim.

People ride there. People have a life there. And you're going to spend it on some soccer places? LIke no. Just no. You guys don't know how much a horse, a stable means for equestrians. It's our life and if you let it dissapear Oh God. Go and find another place that nobody needs.

I have ridden horses and taught riding for disabled. It is the only place in the greater Durban area to ride. Beats taking drugs , getting drunk and vandalism.

We have very few great stables and historical sites. Closing down this stable is just so very unfair. Are we going to have to tell our children and grandchildren one day that we did nothing to stop this? I don't think so!!! Its about time we all stand up and make sure that there is something for our children to look forward to.

I believe that it has and still does serve a positive purpose to enable children who cannot afford a horse the opportunity to exercise their passion for the animals and experience the freedom you obtain with that special bond with the animal

This area of durban should not be turned into a sports academy. The people of durban have been using this area as a horse stable for many years.

Because it is a lovely place. Three times a week crafter and various pleaple sell there goods. People work there. Animals are born and stabled there. It would be very sad if it were gone.

I don't think it's fair to do such cruelty to those beautiful amazing horses....it should not close down..we don't need soccer staduims, Staduims are a waste of time n money. Horses r such amazing animals n they don't deserve cruelty from humans.

Because of my love and passion for horses and all those people's dreams that are getting crushed by a bunch of ruthless imbeciles who don't give a dam about animals those buildings are over a 100 years old they cannot just come along and do as they please. It is so wrong

Geoff P Dettmer says - Just a question, is this not a building older than 60 years and is it not protected by Amalfa as an historical building?

Because the equestrian community in Durban also deserves to be seen and heard and supported.
Horses and riding serves many communities and helps disabled and disadvantaged children to know the joys of interacting with a sentient being which has been proven to have many emotional and physical well being benefits.
Additionally there are hard working and long serving grooms who care for the horses and whose livelihoods are being threatened. And then there are the horses, special wonderful animals that also deserve to be looked after and cared for in proper, quality facilities. After all, they serve the riding public.
