The letter of demand issued by thr CoJ is unconstitutional in its very nature. It appears to be the implicit expectation of a few individuals that the azaan will be barred. I am directly dismayed that the coJ has resorted to engage the masjid without sound legal advice and/or engagement with the muslim commmunity before resorting to a written letter of demand. Such use of draconian powers must be opposed in the highest courts of the land. The coJ is without subtance and/or merit in law. As a south african and law abiding tax paying citizen I am appalled by the ignorance of the decision makers.

I cannot believe that after 45 years allowing the muslims in this area to have the call for prayer all of a sudden there is a problem from city of johannesburg. It's wrong plain and simple WRONG on the city's behalf.
What happened to FREEDOM OF RELIGION in the so called democratic republic of South Africa if need be muslims will march for their rights

Religion is a big part of people in Riverlea so it will be a big mistake to take apart of it away from us I mean what is so wrong about letting our people know its time to get down on our knees so I think its a bad idea we need our religion to be the way it as been always.

Athaan is simply a call for prayer for the Muslim ethnicity/ religion of Islam. South Africa has stated freedom of religion, hence it is unfair to ban the athaan. Banning athaan would possibly be equivalent to banning church bells on a Sunday morning. Remember that South Africa is a democratic country, and banning the athaan would be an act against freedom of religion, meaning the country would be stupid enough to go against its own laws.

I think this petition is a good way to try and get the attention of the public media. All we can do is hope and pray that this petition is successful in reaching enough people that this ludicrous law isn't passed, and we can exercise our right to freedom of religion.

GOD is the creator of mankind. The adhaan is the call to prayer,is a part of the muslim religion, and if one knew its meaning they would understand it is all praises of GOD Almighty. It is only due to peoples ignorance, and racism that they would want to ban the adhaan.

I think the community should respect ones religion and its beliefs and grant them with permission in regards to using their sound systems etc as it is only during major fasting periods

Is this why we have fought for democracy? To be targeted? With the White government we were allowed our mosques and adhaan and now after fighting for freedom, we are being deprived.

All praise be to God

fortunately South Africa is one of the few countries that recognises freedom of religion, I think we should all respect and tolerate each other for a healthy society, treat others how u wish to be treated

This reflect poorly on South Africa and projects an intolerant image of the nation. In India places of worship, especially temples run loud speakers throughout the night during festivals with no complaints from any religious group or locals.

We as South Africans should show religious tolerance.
