Hvis mother shall learn the puppy something, so it is out in the nature, against dangere and take care on themselv. But we are selling familydogs, and when the leave our home in the age of 8 weeks the are realy good sozialisated from the breeder, It is than very importent, the comes imidiatly to there future families and this Family have to learn them, how this puppy have to act in the Family as a familymember. It is very importent to go with the new puppy to puppyclasses so this puppy learns all the different races, different peoples and the puppy have to learn all what the Family like them to do. We know, the forming of the character beginns in the week 3 of there age, and it is finished in the week 16. So therfor the dogs have to go to there new homes in the age of 8 weeks. We are breeders in 20 years with a big knowledge.

This rule is just not right. Perhaps it was taken by misstake of people not knowing so much about dogbreeding. I suppose it was of there goodwill, and that they want to stop puppymills. But that can be stopped in many other ways. This is not good at all, just very bad for the dogs and has no effect at all on that problem. Please reconsider this.

Many are puppy owners or Small breeders who want to pick up their puppies young...at 8 weeks, so bonding & show training can take place where they will permanently live.

#84 CASE OF DOG BEHAVIOUR

There is very important reason to take puppy in age of 8/9 weeks!!! In this moment they finish the time of imprinting and starting the time of socialising. Individual socialisation made by new owner from age of 8 weeks is much MUCH much better for character features of puppy (and in future adult dog) than socialisation started in 4th month!!! If breeder will have 10 puppies for example he will not be able to guarantee all puppies so good socialistation as new owner for individual puppy.

In Canada, puppies can be imported at 8 weeks without being vaccinated against rabies, as long as you can provide a valid proof that the mother of the puppy is current with her vaccination. I remember they explained to me the reason is that the puppy still shares the immunity from the mom at that young age.

I think that we must not obay this law. I will take the risk to transport my puppy across the border.

You cross the borders NL/D/B/F/L without controle!! Also the ilegal "breeders", so the law don't have a statement.

As someone who has imported a puppy in the past and plans to again (and spend my vacation dollars in the EU while I do it), this rule is ridiculous. It does nothing to stop the trafficking of puppy mills or factories - they will find ways to ship puppies under the radar. Instead the laws stop someone like me, who has carefully researched what breed I want and I'm willing to pay to get it, from getting a puppy during prime socialization period. There have been dozens of studies on the effects of puppies not getting proper socialization before 12 weeks. I could cite dozens of puppies I've personally met while teaching puppy and adult obedience classes who were not properly socialized puppies and caused problems for their families because of it.

There is also evidence - and the beginnings of research - that points to rabies vaccines being given to dogs before 16 weeks can be detrimental to their lifelong health. If the point of the law is to protect puppies and keep them healthy, this is a poor way to go about doing it.

Yes, there needs to be regulations and restrictions for the health of the puppies leaving the country as well as the dogs in the country receiving the puppy, but this is not the way to do it.

And why cant the breeder socialise the puppy?! It is at least an attempt to stop some of the puppy trafficing. And I am sorry to say many "proper" "successful breeders" have been too prepared to illegally import dogs, arrange incorrect passports & break the law. Im afraid people who think that puppies should move around Europe at 8 weeks are at best impatient & at worst lazy & greedy...

For the health and diversity of pure bred dogs, there needs to be a way to share bloodlines worldwide. A 16 week old puppy of any larger breed would not be able to fly in the cabin, so would be more at risk to travel. It is very upsetting to hear that any dog who had a rabies shot before the microchip would have to immediately have another rabies shot. This would be very detrimental to the health of the dog, and unnecessary as you can do arabies titer.
