Consumption of excessive alcohol has become far too endemic in our society with devastating results for adults and especially for the young. We need to lessen the number of outlets not increase them, especially so close to a school that goes from kindergarten to yr 13.

As somebody who had easy access to alcohol in High School I really wish I didn't and I'm only 21. Why not take it a step further and ask Auckland's DLC to enact a policy banning liquor stores within school zones? Alcohol is harmful for their good future as many families have been involved with family violence and violence at parties. Drink and driving accidents are killing innocent people so we don't want to involve young school students. they are our country's future. Why influence them to take wrong decisions? Why let them walk past a liqour store everyday just to be tempted to try alcohol further leading to addiction and other problems. My daughter recently had a debate on the topic of underage drinking. The statistics included in her research were shocking. Its time for us to make a change and think about our kids future

Opening a liquor outlet opposite a school is adding to social issues already present in our community. There is already a large campaign in the community to keep our children safe from harm and abuse. Opening a liquor store opposite a school could pose a serious risk for the safety of children.

Would they have opposed this if one of their kids were attending the school?? Absolutely pathetic how they accept this kind of license. Totally against it.

I pray to God Almighty to allow ALL EVIL SPIRITS who tempted the people that were made into the image of God and whom these people are hugging and entertaining in establishing this and things in similar, not only next to Southern Cross but everywhere in New Zealand, to TORTURE them BADLY in their sleep and in everyway, (like HELL on earth) until they come into their thick senses that HELL IS REAL AND HEAVEN IS REAL!!! A way that I could only think of for these stubborn headed people to turn to God! Thank you Jesus for your help!

The license granted by the District Licensing Committee of Auckland Council to Thirsty Liquor Wickman Way by Gavin Thompson - Chairperson; Gwen Bull - Member and Gary Holmes - Member! These appointments are not elected representatives. They were Ministry of Justice appointments on behalf of Auckland Council

#216 We have 108 liquor licenese outlets in our Mangere-Otahuhu Ward area in Auckland!

2014-06-24 00:30

35 in Otahuhu and 73 in Mangere!

Our Mangere-Otahuhu Local Board is leading the way in being against this license especially since it's across from Southern Cross Campus, Te Kura Kaupapa o Nga Tapuwae and a Vagahau Niue pre-school. Thanks to Chairperson Lydia Sosene, Nick Bakulich, Togiatolu Walter Togiamua, Leau Peter Skelton, Tafuna'i Tasi Tauese, Christine O'Brien and Deputy Chair Carrol Elliott. These elected representatives of ours who live in Mangere and Otahuhu care. Those who made the decision from the District Licensing Committee i.e. Gavin Thompson, Gwen Bull and Gary Holmes are NOT elected representatives! They do not live in our community. They don't give a stuff about the local community especially the 1500-2000 young people who go to these schools and their families and the impacts that this liquor store will have on them and the entire local community! They do care about upholding the business owners' rights though!

I do not object to alcohol being sold in shops. I do however object to alcohol being sold in a highly visible shop across from schools 5 m from the school gate and I do object to there being 108 licensed liquor outlets - 35 in Otahuhu and 73 in Mangere with more in the pipeline to come!

I remember back in the days that you could get whatever you wanted from Wickman Way shops. The area has tidied up heaps due to the locals. I for one would not want all that shit back even though people swing that way

All the very best with your stance, against no alcohol (outlet) next to Southern Cross Campus. Or any school campus for that matter.

Many submissions from people in the community were made, and these were overlooked in favour of big business kick backs. This is very disappointing, as is not abiding by current laws that require alcohol outlets to be 100m away from schools. People shoudl be our first consideration, not profits, and most certainly not alcohol!!
